"Good afternoon, my avid academics!" Aquaman greeted the class with the usual brightness and proud smiles, though it seemed twinged with a bit of bittersweet remorse. "Can you believe that it is already our very last day of this class? I know I can't! You've all worked so hard and well, even against the adversity of certain tasks that may have presented themselves to be a difficult challenge! But what is life without challenges? What is success without a high mountain to climb or a tall hurdle to leap? I hope you are all as proud of yourselves as I am of you! I shall miss having you aboard for the subsequent semester, unless you decide to take the course again."

There was a slight pause that may have indicated that, if you did, even Aquaman, subconsciously, thought you would be a little crazyflakes if you did. It was gone before it ever really landed, however.

"So, for our very last day, I would like you to bring your fish back to me and tell the class a little about any adventures you and your gilled friend may have had, and then we'll spend the rest of the hour revisiting our favorite projects! Everything we've worked on, you can work on again. I've got things for cooking, sewing, cleaning, basket weaving, anything you'd like, to really show off what brought you joy and happiness in this particular subject!"

"I shall miss you all! But I can tell there's a bright future in home maintenience ahead of all of you!"

...Sure there was, Aquaman. Sure there was.

Any embarrassment that might've been sustained on Friday, Gabrielle was taking fairly well in stride; as many embarrassing situations as she'd found herself in over her sixteen years, and particularly the last two of those, did a nice job of putting all this in perspective. (Because really, attempting to direct a choir of stalactites and stalagmites while drugged out of her mind on henbane-laced nutbread . . . that one was hard to top.)

. . . of course, she was now seriously worried that something horrible was going to happen to Emmmett. It would fit the going pattern, after all.

There was, therefore, a somewhat fretful-looking Gabrielle seated at the circulations desk, staring distractedly at a fresh scroll of parchment and in danger of chewing her quill to shreds. Tasty.

When the students got to the class room today, they'd find two things dominating the room: The DVD player, and a gigantic stack of silly hats of all shapes, sizes and colors. The bean bag chairs were back, too. Notably not in evidence was the teacher, but the TAs seemed ready to handle things.

"Hello," Jack said. He was wearing a colorful felt derby, which he thought suited him rather well. "Professor Mitchell couldn't be here for your last class today, so he left us in charge. We're ... exploring the importance of costuming to comedy."

This sounded better than 'we want to make people wear funny hats and laugh at them', yes.

He continued, "So put on your hats, note if they make you feel especially comedic, and sit back to watch Trixie & the Kittycats, which is a live-action adaptation of a vintage cartoon."

Kate, in her blue felt top hat, had been more than happy to sit back and let jack do the talking, but she had to chime in right before the movie started. "And we're totally making you wear funny hats just because you'll look ridiculous. And because we can. Enjoy the film."

For the final, the students met at the Causeway, and they had been instructed to wear whatever clothing they had purchased last week. Both Lady Ghanima and Captain Algren were dressed in contemporary attire again as well, and they were distributing tickets.

"Today," Algren said, "we're going to be putting what you've learned about modern times through this class and after spending a term on Fandom Island to the test. We won't throw you to the wolves, per se, but it is up to each and every one of you to conduct yourselves in a manner appropriate to the times during our outing today."

"We're taking a trip to the American Visionary Art Museum," Ghanima said. "And afterwards, we'll grab some fast food before heading back to campus, so that you don't miss lunch today."

"While an hour and a half is hardly enough time to take in the entire museum, we hope that you'll enjoy the outing, and take the opportunity to view both the exhibits and the other people in attendance."

"Keep an eye out for any works in the current Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness exhibition that reflect what it is we've told you about the mindset of people today," Algren added, "or if you're feeling ambitious, try to piece together what events through history have influenced the artists who have created these works."

He cracked a small smile. "Try not to burn down the building when we get there. And, if you enjoy this outing and find yourself wanting more before the next term begins, Lady Ghanima and myself are planning another outing for next week, a day trip on Sunday the 27th, for any of you interested in visiting a modern zoo or science center."

A portal then flickered into existence, and Ghanima gestured towards it with a smile. "Shall we?"

Walter puttered at the front of the classroom humming something to himself that sounded suspociously like "Jingle Bells."

On his workbench and at five stations around the classroom were cubicals containing simple black boxes with a row of red and green bulbs along the front of the box.

"Good afternoon," Walter greeted the students cheerily. "And welcome on this Summer Solstice day. We are half a year away from a time for carolingt, but I am of a mind to approach today's class in a festive manner despite that.

"Today we will discuss hypnagogia before moving on to an interesting practical demonstration of hypnagogic suggestibility."

Walter launched into a lecture informed by anecdotes regarding zoning out on the highway, sleep paralysis, "night hags", and alien abduction.

As well as occasional tangents on sleepwalking, Las Vegas hypnotists, and several minutes spent scrawling on the white board the instructions for getting an optimally fluffy omelet.

Then on to the practical applications of the lecture.

"These boxes," Walter said, turning around the cubical on his desk to show the students the black box in question, "are programmed with both the proper visual wavelengths and frequency of light flashes to induce an hypnagogic state in an observer.

"I want you to choose one or two partners and take turns observing the lights to experience and record your observations on any time lapses you may experience. You will likely not realize that time has passed, so I suggest looking at the clock immediately before you begin to watch the lights, and immediately after the lights stop flashing for you. The boxes are on a timer and you should note that the clock's hand jumps three minutes ahead without your remembering experiencing those three minutes.

"Adventurous students may use my box." He tapped the cube on his workbench. "Only under my direct supervision. This one has been programmed with the proper frequencies to induce not just a time lapse, but hypnagogic suggestibility. I suggest you trust your partner for this one and I will permit no post-hypnotic suggestions. Only immediate suggestions such as 'rub your head and pat your tummy' will be allowed."

He gave them his best mad scientist grin. "Or I'll be the one giving the next post-hypnotic suggestion. Are we understood?"

"Since your last class let you leave if you wanted--" Gunn. "--we'll be doin' something a little more intensive as the end to the session."

Yeah, that grin wasn't friendly.

"Ballroom dancing. And you can all thank Gunn for it."

Aren't you all so glad there were so many guys? Aren't you?

Anakin had handwavily asked the students to meet him on the beach, where they stood in front of his grandson Ben's shuttlecraft.

Yes, Ben was very spoiled.

"This is a Crix-class diplomatic courier shuttle," Anakin said, waving his hand at it. "It's equipped with long-range sensors, a top of the line navicomputer, more shields than strictly necessary, and if I know my family, goes a lot faster than it's advertised to in the brochure."

He grinned at the students. "And today you're going to get to fly it through the solar system. Get in."
