Bond's class met one final time down by the docks, where a number of water-craft waited for them, including a motorboat, a jet-ski, a row-boat, and several sets of snorkels and flippers.

"Good morning, class," Bond greeted them. "This is our final class, and we'll be putting what you've been learning into practice."

He gestured out into the water where a number of buoys were set up, outlining a zig-zagging course. "As you can see, I've set up a course for you to go though one one at a time. You can use your choice of the provided craft, or swim if you choose to. This is not so much a race as a test of skill, the object is complete the course with the minimum amount of errors."

"So who's up first?"

"Yo, Rookies!" Today, Reno's class had been instructed to meet in the park, and to wear some good shoes for walking in. "I ain't gonna write up a final for you guys, yo. The stuff you gotta take with you outta this class ain't nothin' I can slip you a pop quiz for. So we're gonna do somethin' a little different, today."

He stuck his hands in his pockets, smiling lazily at the students assembled.

"Back where I come from, we used to have a tradition, yo. A Rookie's first assignment would be to go on patrol in Sector Eight of Midgar. Since Midgar's a little... out of the way," in oh, so many ways, "we're gonna dumb it down a little, here. This ain't the place I'd usually get my Rookies to secure, but it's still our stompin' grounds. For plenty of you, it might be home. So we're gonna take some time, walk around the island on your own or in groups. Get a feel for the breath of this place, yo. There ain't no shortage of island to go around, after all."

He smirked. He shrugged. A nearby duck quacked. He gave it a look.

"Secure Fandom Island, Rookies, and then meet back here before the end of class to report what you scouted out, yo. It's the last thing I'm gonna tell you to do in this class before I set you loose on the world again, so be thorough, would you? We got the preserve, beach, rocky bits, the campground and the area around the dorms, the schoolgrounds, the streets of town, businesses and warehouses and shit, I don't even know. Group off, scout around, and make sure the island ain't fallin' apart while it thinks you ain't lookin'."

French class met in the Danger Shop today, which had been programmed to resemble a rather down-at-the-heels speakeasy. Three old ladies playing instruments made out of household debris were on-stage, filling the air with unusual jazz.

"Welcome to your last class," Henry said in a raised voice. "I thought about giving a test, but it's about 500 degrees outside. Chill out in here, watch the music, flirt with the patrons if you're up to it. Your entertainment today is the famous Triplettes de Belleville."

"If you feel like going after grades," he added to any suck-ups int he room, "there's some quiet space over by the kitchen. You can write a brief paper on what you learned this term -- either an essay, or a script, or a piece of poetry. Or .. be creative. And enjoy the music."

It was amazing what you could do with a vacuum cleaner.

Anemone was unusually subdued today, occasionally wandering off to shelve books, but mostly spending her time at the desk, spinning her discovery of the other day on the counter, or using it to tap out a melody.

Someone had to decide if she was staying the rest of the summer, or heading home. On one hand, hadn't she wanted to return to the Izumo and active duty for the last three years? On the other... working longer couldn't hurt, nor would more experience around humans. Giving her world more time to adjust to the idea of the last Coralian returning home definately couldn't hurt.

She'd punch the first person who insinuated that she was afraid.

Spin, tap. Spin, tap.

The library was open, and the aide was in.

"All right, children," Kerrigan said, standing straight up in front of the class. "Today's your last class in this module. I hope it's been a little educational." The corners of her long lips tilted up a little bit. "What we've been talking about is the essence of how to deal with a world that's pitched against you. I hope by now you've also gotten the idea that trolling message boards and getting indignant is fun, but it won't help you get by."

God only knew how little being indignant had done for her.

"Sometimes you have to get dirty," she said. "Messy. Foul. When you're at the bottom, you have very little left to lose but your own life - use that. After all, no one is going to give you any respect if you keep your head down solely to make sure you don't get stomped on."

"But that obviously makes this a little... complicated," she continued. "Keep in mind that everyone and anyone can try to use who you are against you, even when they don't mean to. Even when they're friends, or you think they're friends, even if you think you have an insight as to who they are and what they do. Some of you know this. Others..."

She raked her eyes over several members of her audience. "I want you to tell me now how you plan to fight. If you plan to fight. Why you do. Because there's nothing I can tell you that's a magical fix-it. Some of you are going to get kicked down without a single thought into your head as to how things might get better. Trust me. It can happen to anyone. Anyone at all. No matter how... noble... you think you are."

Her mouth evened out. "Go ahead and talk," she said. "If I see any of you in my class next semester... there will be a lot less of that-- so do get it all out now."

Summer had handwavily notified the students to meet in the Danger Shop today. It was set up like an aquarium and research lab mixed together.

"Hi everyone," Summer said, once all of her students were settled in. "Today's our last class and I thought we should end on a high note. So, we're going to learn about manatees."

If she happened to glance at Peter if he was there when she said that, well, it was just a coincidence. Really.

"You've been a great class and I hope I get to see you again, whether it's the next summer session or sometime in the fall."
