"I'm sure it hasn't escaped your notice that there's a decidedly unnatural fog outside," Sirius commented from his normal slouched position against a desk. "And as trained Dark Arts instructors, it is part of our job description to be sure you don't do anything irretrievably idiotic against whatever might be lurking inside it."

He was fairly certain he'd seen something with multiple heads as he'd walked over to the school.

"Please do not go out into it unnecessarily," Remus said with a sigh, looking as stern as he could. "As long as the fog's here, don't go out unarmed, if you simply must go out at all. That fog is, as Professor Black said, most definitely not natural. And what do we learn in this class? To treat unnatural things like that with caution."

"And not like things to poke with sticks," Sirius added with a little glare. "Even sticks that are wands. Professor Lupin is an enormous fan of books and libraries and research and so on, which in this sort of situation is dead helpful because rumors and fear leads to stupidity and clinic trips where you have to wait for your bones to grow back after a charm you try goes wrong --" Sirius trailed off. "Anyway. If you'd like, use this class to speak as a group about what you've seen yourself--not what your roommate told you, or what rumor you heard eating breakfast this morning--and see if we can maybe narrow down what the problem outside might be indicating."

"You're also welcome to use this class to talk about any difficulties you may be encountering. We're here to help, as are your classmates," Remus added, glancing at Sirius. "If we can't solve the problem, we can at least treat what it has done by talking about it." He picked up a bag of Chocolate Frogs and added, "They're just chocolate, but that always makes me feel better." He was sure that what was out there was not Dementors -- Sirius hadn't reacted like it, anyway -- but chocolate helped, magical properties or not. "And yes, I do love research. Speculation and gossip isn't usually helpful. Facts are. Know your enemy."

"And remember," Sirius added, "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!"

Mad-Eye Moody would be so proud.

When the students entered the classroom today, they wouldn't see their regular teacher but a man decked out in full uniform, looking slightly worried after listening to last night's radio broadcast.

"Good morning," he greeted cordially. "I know some of you know me and others don't so, for those that don't, I am Constable Benton Fraser of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Here, I'm more likely known as the head of security and today, I'm filling in for your professor who has had to take a leave of absence. For today, we'll be watching a movie since the administration knows this change is sudden and we don't want to throw you right into learning with a new teacher just yet. Rest assured, more substantial lessons will follow. For now, just enjoy the movie."

He paused for a moment, debating whether or not to say something further. In the end, he thought it best to just say it. "And please do be careful out there. It's rather...eerie."

Even though he hadn't had any visions lately, it was clear to Sam that something was seriously up in Fandom. The fact that he hadn't had any visions to tell him what was up was not making him happy, but he was trying not to think about it as he went back and forth grabbing books and materials for people who wanted to come and research.

Ziva had plenty of material left to study for her citizenship exam, but after listening to the radio last night, getting on the computer to try to find out what was going on seemed like a much better idea. (Sure, she could have cleaned her weapons, but that would be done better at home.) It was times like this that she really missed Abby and McGee. And Tony, possibly a little bit.

How Kennedy ended up at the front of the classroom with Drake today she had no idea, but she was going with it, thumbs hooked in her jacket pockets and a put-upon, skeptical look working full-time while she listened to him talk.

"Like last week's lesbians, gay men suffered through stereotypes and being a token character in movies," Drake began. "Gay men went from Evil to Guaranteed to Die of AIDS to Ultra Effeminate Wacky Sidekick. Fortunately, some movies started to take these stereotypes and shake them up, and these days the minute you have two male characters on screen someone starts writing slash about them. Shh, don't tell Arthur about all those stories about him and Lancelot. It's what happens when you get Clive Owen and Ioan Gruffudd together in a movie. ROWR."

"You're kidding, right?" Kennedy interjected. "Man, that is so unfair. The guys get all the attention. And the Academy Awards, like Brokeback Mountain, which I've never seen but it's all about, like, gay cowboys. 'cause that's the best atmosphere ever to be gay in, right? Anyway, it's kind of a downer, so there's this thirty-second version done with bunnies. Yeah." She held her hands up and made a 'back to you' gesture at Drake.

He picked up, "Then there's Latter Days. We have Christian, who, speaking of King Arthur, looks a heck of a lot like the reincarnation of Arthur I know only only with less evil facial hair. He's a waiter by day, partier by night. And we have Elder Aaron, Mormon missionary by day and...Mormon missionary by night. Christian makes a bet with his friends that he can seduce one of the Mormons who just moved in next door and soon realizes that Aaron is very deep in the closet. Aaron is resistant to Christian due to his religious beliefs and because he doesn't like Christian's casual sex ways, but eventually they share a kiss. Unfortunately, Aaron's fellow Mormons walk in on them, and Aaron gets sent home to Utah. Christian realizes he has genuine feelings for Aaron and chases after him NSFW, and the two of them spend the night together, though Aaron leaves to face the church over his actions. He gets excommunicated, rejected by his family, and attempts suicide. After that he's locked up and forced to undergo shock therapy to 'cure' him. Christian, meanwhile, tries to track Aaron down, but Aaron's mother tells him that Aaron killed himself. Late one night at the treatment facility, Aaron sees a music video by Christian's roommate about Christian and Aaron's relationship. This prompts him to leave the facility and return to LA to find Christian. They have a tearful reunion and then a happy Thanksgiving dinner with their friends."

"Well, at least you picked one with a happy ending that time," Kennedy informed him, starting up the video clips and going back to her seat.

The fog and last night's radio had Paige well and truly creeped out.

When her class arrived, she said, "Okay, so last week we were supposed to talk about keeping magic on the down low but we watched a movie. I was going to move that to today, but I think we'd be better off spending our time talking about current events."

She sat on the desk in front of the room. "This fog is definitely unusual and creepy. And based on last night's radio broadcast, it sounds like there is something more going on around here. So let's talk about any experiences we've had so far, either here or back home, that might somehow relate to the fog."

There was a pause before she continued. "Additionally, if any of you find yourselves needing transportation somewhere on the island, feel free to call my cell phone any time and I'd be happy to teleport you."
