Library [03/24]

Even though he hadn't had any visions lately, it was clear to Sam that something was seriously up in Fandom. The fact that he hadn't had any visions to tell him what was up was not making him happy, but he was trying not to think about it as he went back and forth grabbing books and materials for people who wanted to come and research.

Arthur... did not know how to do research, per se. At least not in the intensive sense.

What he did know was 'hanging around until you run into academic types who do know what researching is', and so he made his way up to the library and poked around.

Anemone had considered staying in her room today, but since there had been researchers yesterday, the responsible thing to do would be to head to the library, in case Sam or Mr. DeTamble needed a break or something.

Hopefully the Wild Things hadn't eaten either of them in the night.

But now she was happily settled into a corner after reading the whiteboard, some of her favorite reference books piled around her, and Gulliver occasionally being sent to fetch a source or put a book away. After three years at Fandom High, Anemone had gotten ridiculously good at researching the improbable.

Summer had braved the fog -- and it had creeped her out to no end -- to see if she couldn't help with the research. After all, researching was something she could do. It kind of came with the marine biology territory.

She settled at a table with a bunch of books and, with occasional glances at the whiteboard, got to work. Summer only hoped she'd find something of value.

After class, it was clearer than ever to Jack that something was going on, and not knowing what it was had him jittery. Sebastien would have had him researching until his eyes bled; it was with some grim satisfaction that he made it to the library to do precisely that.

He eyed the board and decided to skip the computers and look through some scientific journals to see if he could learn any more about this von Slaptyback.

It was dry work for someone with only a rudimentary understanding of modern science. Eventually, however, he found one volume that made sense to Jack. He took swift notes as he read through it, keeping an eye open for anyone who he might be able to compare findings with.

Eventually bored with her Very Serious Research on this 'Slaptyback's' dinosaur-ish projects -- Anemone had a morbid fascination with genetic engineering, all things considered -- turned to what she considered the 'long shot, but what the hell' work.

Checking birth, death, and wedding announcements. Because maybe they'd find his sister or something, who could verify that he was splicing spiders in Africa or something, and they could move on.

Instead, she found herself staring at one notice (http://weddings.theknot.com/pwp/pwp2/view/MemberPage.aspx?coupleid=6346047143043622) with disbelief. "They let mad scientists marry? Doesn't that imply letting them procreate outside a test-tube?" Because that wasn't a horrible idea. At all. Or anything.

Okay, so, there was weird fog, and the radio was reporting things about even weirder creatures in said fog. And last time Claudia had decided to wing it with weird creatures she got electrocuted. Hence, hitting up the library for research before winging it.

She got a bit distracted by all the stuff that'd already been posted though. "Dude. It's all organized-like."

Armed with a lead slightly better than "clippity-cloppity bananabreath from hell", Claudia hit the 'net, and with a few totally-moral-if-not-technically-legal hacks, managed to track down something that could be helpful.

"Has anyone figured out what's going on?"

Yes, Arthur had made his way up to the library to figure out wtf was up instead of simply charging in with his sword. Please hold your surprise.

He... really wasn't.

"Hm," Arthur said, and snagged an errant piece of paper. "Would you mind letting me know if anything more gets posted to the board...?" He could always swing by a second time, but knowing things quickly would be useful.

Claire stopped by to talk to Sam but she hadn't managed to bring herself to head in to town and stop at the Perk so she made coffee in the common room and had scrounged up a travel mug from somewhere instead. She also brought cookies to make up for not having delicious Perk coffee.

"It's so damn creepy out there," she said by way of greeting.

"I'm fine, Sam," Claire assured him. "But you get homemade coffee today."

She handed him the mug and a ziplock bag with some cookies (not homemade, alas).

"You're okay?"

"Morning, Sam," Henry said as he got to work, a little late and a little wild-eyed. He had the nagging feeling something had been following him through the foggy streets, and spent some time splashing cold water on his face before he felt anywhere near ready for work. He did his best to keep his tone level anyhow. "How are you holding up? It's pretty weird out there."

And, he noticed as he looked around, pretty busy inside.

"Not bad," Henry said. "I got a little creeped out, getting here, but now that I'm inside it's all okay."

He glanced back to his office. "I don't think I'll exactly rush about getting home, though."

"It's really weird outside," Chuck said when he came in. He didn't think it was that big of a deal though, which is why he actually went into town and got stuff from Luke's.

"It's just fog, Sam," Chuck said, rolling his eyes. "I know I'm not as experienced as the rest of you when it comes to that sort of thing but I think I can handle myself."

Henry hovered near the researchers most of the day. It made for good busywork, and he was certain he'd have to show someone how to use the microfilm reader without breaking it at least once before the day was up.
