shiroi_tiger: (Gremlin Bite - Little Maid From School)

... Some days, it was possibly a worse idea than others for Algren to decide that he'd like to get actual tea from his cupboards for class before coming to work. Because some days, you never knew when there might be a rogue gremlin, poking through the matcha before he'd get there.

Which would probably explain the setup of the Danger Shop to some degree, yes. The room seemed to be set up as per a traditional Japanese tearoom, and Algren would probably thank the lot of you later for remembering the proper procedures for seating yourself in a public gathering scenario. Because the rest of the class really wasn't going to be about tea ceremonies at all, if the gaggle of Danger Shop generated Geishas had anything to do with it.

Or, for that matter, the fact that their teacher was currently wearing full geisha regalia as well, makeup and all.

He would be the easy one to spot out of all of the girls. He would be the pretty, pretty geisha with the beard.

Right about now would be a good time for some music to kick in, wouldn't it? And for one geisha to take her place on either side of Algren, so that they could perform a lovely song and dance number?

But of course.

Gabrielle was humming to herself as she went about her duties today, a tuneless but unmistakably perky little mishmash of what would sound like songs from operettas about pirates . . . if you could pick out the tunes. Rest assured, tuneful or not, that was exactly what they were. She blamed mermaids the pi-rats.

The issue of her questionable musical merit aside, Gabrielle was in an almost aggressively good mood today, in blithe unawareness of the date.

The Ides of March didn't mean anything to her yet. Shh.

Horror 101, Monday

"Horror," Mitchell told the class, "Is about fear. I know that's patently obvious, but sometimes people forget and make it all about what cool new prosthetics they can put on a rubber mask." Mitchell's eyes: rolling a bit. "So today we're taking it back to the source. To fear. All those small, everyday fears that can cripple us, make us leap at shadows, make our lives run another course just to avoid them. The best horror films and books are based on these fears, on these innate terrors that make us shiver and turn all the lights on in the house, cram ourselves up in tiny spaces or big ones. Those kind of fears. Phobias."

Fear of the dark, fear of the dark, I have this constant fear that something's always near... )

Ghanima was perched, as usual, on the front of her desk as the students trailed into class.  "Good morning students, happy Monday.  Don't look quite so paranoid, there's no acting today, you're all safe from my mad whims.  Mostly.  Instead, today we are studying a Trickster that far outstrips any prank I could pull, Anansi."

"Most cultures that have Anansi myths also have the story of how Anansi became King of All Stories, not just his own.  On your desks, you have a handout retelling how Anansi became the God of all Stories, wining that title from his father.  Please read it over, and we will discuss."

"Our ambition should be to rule ourselves, the true kingdom for each one of us; and true progress is to know more, and be more, and to do more." - Oscar Wilde

Tyler was sitting on his desk as the students came in today. Once everyone seemed to be where they belonged, he started to talk.

"We're playing a game today," he said. "It's called the One Rule Game. As of right now, there are no rules in this classroom."

Because he said so.

"What I want each of you to do is to come up with the one rule you'd want to live by, if I was going to institute one and only one rule. Come up with a good one, we might even make it a real rule."

Again, because he said so. Tyler knew he was playing with a stacked deck, here.

"And the way we'll decide if it's the real rule or not is: We'll discuss them all during class. Once I have everybody's rules, I'll write them all down, and you'll have all of next week to stop by my office and vote for the rule you want. Majority rules -- whatever rule we come up with, I'll abide by for the rest of the semester."

"One last thing, next week we're starting on existentialism. Read Nausea by Sartre before class. Library knows to have copies ready for you."

Tyler had been looking forward to the existentialism classes, and it showed in his smile.

It was raining and the class wasn't meeting in the Danger Shop. This could only end well.

"Good morning, class," Bond began, clapping his hands together in the most disgustingly cheerful manner he could manage. "Today we're going to be doing a stealth exercise."

He pointed to a random student. "You will stay here with me while the rest of the class will have between five and ten minutes to make their way to the preserve and find the best place to conceal themselves that they can, after which your erstwhile classmate will come looking for you," he explained. "If they succeed in finding your hiding place and tapping you out, then you will join in with their search, until we either run out of time, or there is only one person left hiding, in which case we'll start again with that person as the new searcher.

"While you may not leave the preserve, you may use any non-powered method to conceal yourself which does not put yourself or another student at risk. You may also try to avoid detection by moving around, but if you are caught out in the open, then you'll automatically be considered tapped."

"Your time starts now."

"Love is patient, love is kind," Anakin began, looking down at his notes, then snorted and made the universal symbol for "blah, blah, blah" with his hand.

He might be a soft touch on the subject, but he was hoping no one in the room would call him on it. Given that his daughter was in the room, the likelihood of that not happening were ones not even a Corellian would bet on.

"In my version of the Jedi Order, we were taught that in order to maintain the proper distance necessary to negotiate impartially across our galaxy, we were to strive for serenity, not passion. To be Jedi, we should not know anger, or hatred, or love. When we were very small children, we were raised in the Temple so that family loyalty or planetary allegiance would not get in the way of following the will of the Force."

He crossed his arms over his chest, the ring on his left hand gleaming under the light, and glanced around the room. "Is this an unreasonable standard to hold someone to? Can you stop someone from falling in love? What do you think the Masters of my Order were trying to prevent?"
