Rick was extremely bouncy today as the class filed into the Danger Shop.

"Afternoon, hope you're all sufficiently recovered from the weekend," he said by way of greeting. "Today we're going to have a look at the impact of having highly advanced technology can have on committing crime. If for example, you had access to some sort of time machine, you could go back in time, steal something, and then go hide out in another era, free from any sort of pursuit."

He started tossing what looked like watches to the students. "Unless, that is, the cops also had time machines. Then they could fight crime throughout time." Rick paused to let that line sink in. "These stylish yet functional devices are called chronoskimmers, a portable, personal time-travel device, in addition to being able to narrow down the possible destinations of recent time-travellers in the near vicinity, they are connected to both criminal databases and Wikipedia. You will be using them to hunt down a number of time-travelling criminals. However, due to the potential consequences to the timeline you only have a limited window of opportunity to catch your criminal, and you also need a warrant for the charges to stick. So keep an eye out for any clues at all."

Rick grinned. "Good luck. Maybe you'll even be able to figure out where in time is the Lady in the Red Hat."

Dan had brought in his laptop to the library today and was trying to come up with a suitable answer to his dad's "What do you want for your birthday?" e-mail. He knew "nothing" wouldn't fly so he was trying to think of something cheap that his dad would accept.

Being poor had oh so many problems attached to it.

Today, the students met back in the classroom. In the center of said classroom was a kids' inflatable pool. On one side of the pool were toy battleships. On the other, toy sailboats.

Where is this going? )

"Office meetings tend to be pretty horrible," Jim said. "Usually they mean one of three things: bad news - like there have been huge layoffs, good but uninteresting news - like you ARE going to have a holiday party this year and we'll let you know when and where it will be later, or a lecture about some kind of office etiquette or policies to increase productivity. For you, it will mostly mean trying not to fall asleep."

"If you're really lucky, you'll end up getting a video. That means the lights will be out and hopefully it'll be easier to nap."

"There's really no tips I can give you to get through it. You just have to go in and be battle-hardened. And that's why we have videos to watch today. Be strong, class. Be strong."

Jim turned down the lights, turned on the TV, and started playing a series of kind of useful but boring videos.

Jim was so zoned out by the middle of the second video that he thought the narrator had a purse. The worst part was that this was his second time through the videos.

There were no finished newspapers this week. There were no cupcakes or donuts or other refreshments, either. However, there was a teenage girl who thought she was a mime, and from the looks of things, she was trapped in a box.

And since it was the newspaper staff meeting, there were plenty of cameras around to capture the moment! Hoshi was going to hate herself when the gremlin venom wore off.

[OCD first, please in place. And visitors are definitely welcome this week!]
