doubleohblonde: (Bond is smugly relaxed)

As each student entered the class-room, Bond handed them a small, folded slip of paper with their name on the front, and gestured for them to sit down.

Cut for kinkiness. )

It was really Aeryn's own fault. When she'd planned the class on gremlin bites, it had seemed easy enough. Capturing one hadn't been difficult, and its little cage was set up so it would be comfortable and no one would report her for any sort of abuse, and the thing had actually seemed pretty content in there. At least until she went to get the cage to bring to class, and it decided it didn't like its current arrangement anymore and took a good bite into her hand when it escaped.

So despite the icon, Aeryn was dressed conservatively for what the class would now be discussing, because if she showed up in anything less she would have to kill herself before next week. Being a Victoria's Secret fashion model would be embarrassing enough.

"Hello, everyone!" she said, sounding vaguely like she'd taken diction lessons from Heidi Klum. "First thing we're going to do is move all these desks out of our way. And then you're going to go through all the clothes in that bin and pick what you're going to wear for our fashion show! Now remember, this is being televised, so do your best and don't fall on your face in front of the cameras." There were no cameras. She was striking a pose here for no one.

No, seriously, there'd be a real class for a mortified Aeryn next week. Just think of this as the demonstration portion of the gremlin bite class.

"Bonjour, class," Colette said easily from behind a table heaped baking supplies and a display of different kinds of muffins. She seemed sunny today -- possibly because she'd been indulging in her own baked goods for a while.

"Today we will learn to bake one of the simplest quickbreads, the muffin. Muffins are small, usually sweet, cakelike breads often made with fruit or nuts. They are incredibly easy to improvise."

As she spoke, she started measuring things into a bowl. "A basic recipe for muffins is -- in American measurements -- 2 cups flour, 2 to 4 tablespoons sugar, 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 egg, 1/4 cup oil, shortening or butter, 1 cup milk, and then half a cup or so of flavoring, whether that is chocolate chips or grated apple or cheese. You can also switch some of the flour for oatmeal or cornmeal for a different flavor."

"The nicest thing about muffins is that they come together very quickly, so you may have warm, fresh muffins for breakfas almost as fast as you can make pancakes."

"I have copies of a muffin cookbook, if you want to work from that, or you may improvise within the formula. The muffins are yours to take home after class. As always, let me know if you need help."

When the students filed into the Danger Shop for class today, they'd probably notice that the setup seemed to be a pretty far stretch away from the typical classroom setup, and it was also stunningly modern, as well. Or, at least, as modern as rows upon rows of slot machines, poker tables, and other assorted casino-related nonsense ever really got. Hyper-modern? Possibly just noisy and somewhat surreal?

Pressing on into more modern views! )

[OCD on the way up! And wow, no NWS warnings today. What is the world coming to?]

"We called it the Holocaust," Mitchell started. His mood seemed more solemn today, "The Germans called it the Final Solution. One of the main lessons about the media is how you word it, the phrases you use, the vocabulary you set up. You can spin almost anything to sound like it's a good thing in the end." He was standing, his hands in his pockets. "The Nazis were convinced that Caucasians with blonde hair and blue eyes should inherit the Earth. That the lower races, as I've mentioned, were to be subjugated to make things better. The worst had to be wiped out. That was the problem they needed a Final Solution for."Arbeit macht nicht frei. )"I'm going to be showing you all a fragment of a recent reconstruction of the discovery of such a camp. You don't have to talk about it. I just want you all to think about that for a moment - to keep your eyes open when words like 'Final Solution' start getting thrown about."

It was time for the Halloween decorations to come down, alas, and so Anemone was moping about the library. Gathering up all her cobwebs and spiders and such.

The door to Special Collections was going to stay decorated for now, at least, just because it made her smile.

[The OCD ran away with the spoon because I managed to leave this open and unposted on my laptop all day. GO ME.]
