When the students filed into the classroom today, they'd find the desks pushed to the sides of the room again, and a wardrobe at the front of the classroom. No, Edmund, not for you. Remus stood beside it, wand actually out and arms crossed for once.

and then there was talking )

[co-written with the darling [livejournal.com profile] siriuslyscarred! waaaait for OCD, IT IS UP. ETA: and for the radio squirrels -- it's fine to say Remus chatted with George after class, but content is NFB pls.]

Drake was wearing oh-so-wizardy robes for class today, including a tall pointy hat. "Today we're going to look at the legend of King Arthur," he said. OMG forgive me for talking so much. )

Drake snapped his fingers and totally modded changed the students' clothing to medieval garb. "OK! Sookie, you're Queen Guinevere. Sam, you're Arthur, and Tony, you're Lancelot. The rest of you are Knights of the Round Table -- even the girls, we're equal opportunity platemail here -- or ladies of the court, if you prefer. The Queen's just been caught in a compromising position with Lancelot. Art, you love them both. Guin, you love them both. Lance, you love them both. But the laws of the land demand a punishment, and the King cannot appear weak. Lance and Guin, you get to defend yourselves, if you can. The rest of you can argue for or against execution, banishment, forgiveness, or whatever you can come up with. And Arthur, you'll have to decide what to do."

Just before first period, Barney, his booth, and a half dozen signs encouraging students to VOTE appeared like magic in the lobby of the school.

He didn't pretend to smile at the students as he held his vigil over the ballot box, just waiting for trouble to erupt so he could call on one of those annoyingly burly teachers to help.

Please, like this guy was breaking up a fight.

[OOC: See voting rules as described on the ballot! Feel free to ping in if you want to talk about the election or play out voting, but be aware I'm mostly AFK till 5pm EST.]

Today, the class walked out into a great grassy green city obviously high up in the Andes.

"I have," he announced as he walked out from behind one of the stone walls, "brought the mountain to you all today."

Oh, that was a terrible joke, Nick, but we love you anyway.

"Today, as you might have guessed, we're studying Pre-Columbian Art," and he gestured around the space with a sunny smile before turning to the cleared slate wall for yet another quick slideshow. )

"Now, most of the crafts discussed today took quite some time and often, multiple people to make. If you would like to turn your hand to these processes, the hut to the side here has the totally moddable tools to give some of them a try. If you think that's a bit much, I have some traditional art supplies and a few easels on the other side where you can try your hand at something perhaps inspired by what you've seen today. Or even this fantastic view.

"Work in teams or alone, but I'll be walking around to see how you're doing and if you need anything, feel free to give a shout for myself or Shilo."

He spread his hands and looked at his students with a smile.

"And now... off we go."

After last week's explosion of pink, Turtle had reasoned with Elle that she take up the task of providing the accoutrement for the ABG meeting this week. This meant that, instead of pink, everything was far more tasteful in shades of green, and, in addition to the usual snacks of chips and cookies and pop, there were little green bags of candy. Yes, they were the same bags Turtle had been giving out for her campaign, only with the 'Vote 4 Turtle' tags removed and replaced with tags with everyone's names on them.

And though there were only three candidates running for the three senior Student Council spots, Turtle was trying her best to fight off her nerves.

"Okay, guys," Turtle turned to a big easel with a big chart on it filled with their suggestions from last week. "Here's what we've got for ideas, and we're going to discuss some of them today, as well as when we think we might want to do some of this stuff. We've got:"

Slumber Party
Holiday Party
Bake Sale
Bachelorette Auction
Christmas Auction
Sadie Hawkins Dance
Fandom Olympics (vs. KKG? Clubs? Classes?)
Children's Hospital Visit
World Domination

"These are all really awesome idea, I have to admit. That last one, though, I think is definitely more of a Full School Year project. So what do you guys think? Any that you'd like to do straight away? Or that you vehemently oppose? Let's discuss."

[[ OCD on the way has taken the suggestion and has gotten up! ]]

When the students came into the classroom, they found Anakin scrawling a quote on the board:

“In general, pride is at the bottom of all great mistakes.”--John Ruskin

He turned around with an eyebrow raised. "Is Master Ruskin correct? How about Master Lao Tzu? He said: 'Pride attaches undue importance to the superiority of one's status in the eyes of others; and shame is fear of humiliation at one's inferior status in the estimation of others. When one sets his heart on being highly esteemed, and achieves such rating, then he is automatically involved in fear of losing his status.'"

He began pacing around the room. "Does pride always go before a fall? Do we have to be humiliated before we can learn? How high do the stakes have to be before we'll admit we've made a mistake, or have been fooled?"

"In order to deal ethically with other people, we need to acknowledge this very human flaw in ourselves and others. We want to believe that we are different, better than everyone around us." His gaze sharpened. "We're not. Everything is connected. You, me, the desks, the rocks outside, the deer in the preserve, the annoying person in the dorm who plays their music too loudly. Take pride in being yourself, certainly," he concluded. "But don't for a moment believe that who you are makes you more than the person sitting next to you. Because that kind of pride is where you make your first mistake."
