"You know that little piece of paper that I handed around at the beginning of the semester?" Glinda trilled, the happy turned up a little too high, as everyone shuffled into the workshop room. "Well, forget last week. And this week. What I want you to do is this. First, take a popcorn ball-" which were roughly the size of meta for Garfield after a lasagna binge- "from this tray. Second, a glass of iced tea from this one. Third, listen to the lecture. )

"Good afternoon, class!" Today, they would find themselves being greeted by their brusque teacher in the usual Danger Shop clearing, although the woods seemed a bit thicker, the rocky bits rockier, and there was the sound of a waterfall and a river off in the distance, which spilled out into the sea. It was all very pretty.

"Allow me to take a second to apologize for missing class last week, but I am sure my TA did a fine job in leading you to buttkicking! If you have any particularly rousing stories about your buttkicking or any residual questions, please, I would love to hear them!"

"Today we are working on two very important ranger skills! Tracking, and plant finding!" He started to hand out some papers, which were probably pretty helpful and full of information, but Minsc would not be offended if anyone made paper planes or blew their noses in them...because they had a lot of information on them and reading was hard. "Being able to recognize signs of creatures in the area recently might be a big difference between a successful raid or being eaten by a bear! And knowing the difference between a plant that can a heal and a plant that can give you explosive stomach pains is very good, too! You'd be surprised how similar they make some of those! So please look over the material, ask any questions if you've got them, and I'd like you to pair up, go into the woods, and start tracking! Try to find the lair of a creature or monster hidden in these woods, and then try to locate at least three bad plants and three good plants! When you are done, you may work on your sparring or target practise. Now go!"

Fred was actually playing nice again today.

"Nobody has an excuse to fall asleep in class today, so anyone who stops? Dodgeballs. Anyone slacking off? Dodgeballs. I just feel like it? Dodgeballs."

Fred's definition of 'nice' is different than most folks. And this was on day one of his dieting.

"We got ourselves an activity today that'll test your team work, sort of." He pointed over at the several Earth Balls. And then he pointed at the sections of gym with low nets. "Break into small teams, and play volleyball with 'em. Except the ball is a allowed to hit the ground once on your side. If it hits and stays, that' a point for the other team. But if it bounces, you get a chance to get it back over. And believe me, it'll take more than just one of you to change its momenta-whatever."

"Get to it."

Today the classroom was set up with chessboards, one board for every two students, plus the one on Reid's desk. The pieces sat to either side of the boards, waiting to be set up, and there was a printout by each seat.

"Since I put off the chess lesson last week, I figured that we could have it this week, instead. I'm still going to keep it-- low pressure. The basics are in the handout by your seats, and if anyone has any particular questions, or just wants a game with me, I'm here."

With that, he went to sit behind his desk.

((OCD may be delayed by LJ's failure today; please be patient! is up!))
