Self-Expression through Music, Friday August 7, Fourth Period

"You know that little piece of paper that I handed around at the beginning of the semester?" Glinda trilled, the happy turned up a little too high, as everyone shuffled into the workshop room. "Well, forget last week. And this week. What I want you to do is this. First, take a popcorn ball-" which were roughly the size of meta for Garfield after a lasagna binge- "from this tray. Second, a glass of iced tea from this one.

"Now," she continued, after everyone had their snack. "In a few weeks' time, we will be concluding this class with performances." She held up her hand to silence any protests. "I do not mean that I expect you to sing, or play an instrument. I simply wish that you will demonstrate, in your own personal style, how music helps you to express yourself. As easy as that! You may dance, make a short film, perform a skit, present a painting you created while listening to a favorite song- whatever you feel most comfortable with. And if you wish to invite your friends and classmates to observe, feel free." She sat down and checked her master copy of the syllabus. "Now for today's discussion: musicians who changed the world."

[OCD is up!]

Joan listened to Glinda's explanation of the final and wondered what she could do that wouldn't be horribly embarrassing.

Liir was considering his options. He didn't like any of them particularly, mostly because music just wasn't much of a part of his life.

The ball was as big as he was. He hoped Glinda wouldn't be offended if he only ate a very little bit.

"Johnny Rotten," said Priestly.

He didn't really think the guy needed much explanation.

Priestly's eyes went wide. "The lead vocalist for the Sex Pistols?" he supplied helpfully. "Only, like, the band that totally started the punk movement."

Priestly thought for a few moments. "The Talking Heads dude totally started New Wave."

Perhaps she was looking for something from before 1975, Priestly.

Peyton was here and more than a bit bemused by the size of the popcorn balls. Still, she snagged one and a glass of the iced tea as she sat to listen to the lecture with the class.
