When students filed into the classroom today, they might notice that Algren wasn't wearing his usual brown duster coat. Instead, he was clad in a blue military uniform, carefully clean and highly decorated but with his coat left unbuttoned, with his hands clasped behind his back. He wasn't pacing the front of the room today, either. Instead, he was simply standing, not quite at attention, not quite at ease, observing the faces of the people passing through the doorway.

Today, he took a deeper breath than usual before he began to speak.

The fact that Jonah was wearing a giant bow on his head didn't seem to phase him as he started to speak today. "First things first, pass up your interview articles so I can skim them and tear them apart for everyone to hear. Come on, hurry up!"

After that was all done, Jonah moved on to today's lesson. "Reviews. They're the magical part of the newspaper that tells people how good or how horrible things are on a four star scale. It's completely subjective, so your biases are able to come out completely and influence you all you want. And everything needs to be reviewed! Food? Movies? Plays that nobody's ever going to see? If they don't have stars next to them, then they barely exist."

"Good reviews should be written with four things in mind. First, giving it a star value where one is crap, two is slightly better than crap, three is okay, and four is excellent. Second, your article should have something to do with the number of stars you gave it. Don't give me any Roger Ebert crap where you spend half a page complaining about a movie you gave three and a half stars to. Third, explain your biases so people know why you're giving a piece of crap action movie four stars even though it stars someone who couldn't act even if he was being paid millions of dollars to do just that. Fourth, remember that most people who read your review will never bother experiencing whatever it is you reviewed and will use your arguments when they talk about whatever it is you reviewed. It's healthy to develop contempt for those people early so it doesn't shock you later."

"So, homework again this week. Find something and review it. There are plenty of restaurants on the island, you all have access to movies on cable, and you're all halfway creative people so I'll trust you to figure something out. Get to it!"

When Claudia'd woken up that morning, she had a new and fabulous hat on her head. She'd put on a silver mini dress to compliment it, debated for a moment before adding the brand new shoes she'd bought from Toby the day before. On anyone else she'd look a bit like the seventies threw up. On Claudia, it looked great.

Especially the hat.

She opened the library with a cheerful grin on her face. It was going to be a totally dibble day.

The hat on Ned's head made him look even taller than he usual. He kept reaching up to adjust it, thinking it was going to fall off or fall over his eyes but it never really moved. It was that fierce.

"So, uh, high," he said, feeling highly embarrassed at running a club with the hat on his head. "I see I'm not alone in this hat thing. I feel like I've got a pineapple or something on my head. I have no idea how someone wears this purposefully."

He adjusted the hat again.

"Today, we're going to be covering chocolate." Ned felt a whole meeting on chocolate was time well spent. "Now, most of you have probably had chocolate at one point in your life unless you're allergic to it and, if you are, I'm sorry about that. Chocolate comes in many flavors. White, dark and milk are the three big ones and the three you're probably going to know best. Chocolate's most commonly used in desserts, of course, and as a helpful pick me up during the day in the form of candy. Today, I want you to make something with chocolate. Anything you want. I've got lots of chocolate and lots of moddable ingredients for you to work with. Have fun, indulge your sweet tooth and don't blame me if you get a stomachache."

Ned adjusted his hat again and went off to start making something with chocolate.

Today's class was once again in the Danger Shop, a resource she was really starting to enjoy.

"All right class. Today, we'll be working on two things: meditation and visualization. Both of these are absolutely key to thaumaturgy and have other benefits as well. If you tend to be a more stressful type, meditation might assist you in the future. And visualization is always useful to keep goals and plans clear and focused. As talking about it is both boring and entirely unhelpful, we'll be doing three exercises today.

"Consider the third one 'extra credit', all right?

"Now, onward we go."

"No responses yet for ads," Rikku said, setting down her usual box of donuts. "Any ideas how we can drum up interest?"

She frowned up at her own head. "Or what the heck is going on with all these hats?"

After her sparring session with Jen, and a quick shower, the hat ended up back on Dinah's head. Giving up on changing that, she headed for the cafeteria to grab a quick lunch.

Buffy had had kind of a crappy week. There'd been a check this morning: no weird hats on head, no desire to blurt out things like secret identities and the existence of vampire maybe-boyfriends, no more detentions received since yesterday.

Since the answer to all those things was no, she could leave her room and show up in the library today. If anything weird happened, though, she was so out of here.
