The danger shop today was set up on a great, grassy clearing, bordered on one side by trees and on the other with mountains. Across the plain, strange creatures idly roamed, and, near the entrance to the scene, stood Minsc, dressed in full, actual armour but, respecting the rules of the school, armed only with pretendy danger shop weapons. Near him stood more stands with moddable armour and weapons for the kidlings.

"Good morning, children!" he greeted them brusquely, quite obviously in his element. Even Boo seemed ready for battle, safely tucked in the pouch at Minsc's belt. "I hope you are feeling awake, or else you maybe feeling sore. Today, you see, is for battle!" He pumped his fist, tight around a sword, into the air. "For fighting!" Another energetic pump. "For glorification of arms and the good, sweaty feeling of combat! Today, we speak of magical creatures who will fight beside you for justice! Or against you for badness! And we must know how to approach them, to fight beside them or fight against!"

He waved his sword toward the battlefield, pointing out the creatures with its end. "Pay attention, now!"

Magical Creatures in the Battlefield )

"Now, please keep in mind, my students! The creatures discussed today are only a few of the possible creatures that may help or hinder you in a battle! Many of the others you might see are very big and large and splendiferous, and we will be covering them much later in class, in a different section!"

"What I would like you to do today is, first! We will discuss our options. Tell me: if you had to chose only one of these creatures to assist you in battle, which would you choose? And why? The Whys are very important! Do not fear to engage your fellow classmates in debate and discussion, either! Do you agree? Disagree? And, again, with the important Why's! It is important to know all about a creature before you engage it."

"And engage you will! After we have discussed matters, go ahead, and go out into the field to engage whichever creatures you please. Try to get them to help you. Fight them bravely! But be warned; these are just pretend monsters, and if things get a little hairy, I will have to end your battle, just to be safe. I know, I know. Such a killjoy, but this is a classroom, and veneration from a good, hearty fight will have to wait for after hours!"

Cal limped (yes, limped, and pretty badly, too) into the library that morning to open it, grumbling into his coffee about a hatred for radio that had very firmly exceeded his previous apathy about it. Not only for radio, but also for all things small, amphibious, and shelled. He'd always been more of a frog person himself.

The pile of books waiting to be shelved got quite the glare, as well. Once he sat down, he wasn't moving. Not with those bruises on his shins.

Ghanima was keeping a careful watch on her students as they arrived today, making sure no one was still suffering from the lingering effects of last Thursday.

"Good morning. Today, we work with chapter four, often known as 'Tactical Dispositions'," she said, smiling at them as she hopped off her desk and walked over to the chalkboard. "Sun Tzu said: 'The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy.'"

Hence the saying: One may know how to conquer without being able to do it. )

"Begin."

Today, perhaps finally there was some minor lab equipment set up at the desks. Today, they were starting practical work, and Abby Irene herself couldn't be happier. The theory was all well and good, but you didn't really understand anything until you got your hands into it, deep down and dirty into it, got it under your fingernails and up in your hair.

There were no bad hair days like those experienced by alchemy students.

As the assembled made their way in, she smiled at them.

"Today, we start with the practical work." And so she started the lesson... )

As the students entered, they would probably notice that Sam was muttering under her breath as she held her cell phone to her ear and paced. After a few minutes, she closed the phone with a snap and turned to face the class. "Good afternoon. I'm sure some of you will be thrilled to know we won't be blowing anything up today. For those of you who are disappointed, well, there will be other weeks for that."

"Today we're going to talk about means of communication and how they work." Sam passed out handouts explaining the wonders that were ballpoint pens, cellular phones, universal messaging, instant messaging, telephones, e-mail, and smoke signals. "I may have forgotten some, and if I've left out your favorite, please feel free to let me know."

She paced to the front of the room and leaned against the desk, arms folded. "So, my question to you is this: If you were going to be captured or just leave after trashing someone's apartment, which do you think would be the most efficient and versatile form of communication? Or, in other words, which would you prefer to have with you to contact someone and let them know that you were, in fact, not dead? Or even that you might need help to stay that way? Why? Are there modifications you would make?"

"Hey, guys. Glad you're all back and your correct genders and everything," Lily greeted the class when everyone had arrived. She was still wearing heels. Her back was killing her but her calves looked hot. "Hope in all the confusion you remembered to have a subject in mind for this week's project. And if not... well, just don't tell me about it, it's really easy to fake. Don't tell anyone I told you that."
