The Library; Monday [ 09/29. ]

Cal limped (yes, limped, and pretty badly, too) into the library that morning to open it, grumbling into his coffee about a hatred for radio that had very firmly exceeded his previous apathy about it. Not only for radio, but also for all things small, amphibious, and shelled. He'd always been more of a frog person himself.

The pile of books waiting to be shelved got quite the glare, as well. Once he sat down, he wasn't moving. Not with those bruises on his shins.

First period was devoted entirely to sucking down his sugary coffee and brooding. A lot.

Cal was discovering a morbid, masochistic fascination with reaching down and pressing against the bruises on his shins, making the pain spread up and his senses tingle from it.

"You look a little rough around the edges, kid," Indy noted as he came out of his office. "You end up as a girl last week too?"

Cal frowned at Dr. Jones for a moment, wondering how the two were directly related. "I have bruised shins," he said, by way of answer, "not bruised pride."

That would be a no, for the record.

Indy held up his hands in a conciliatory fashion. "Sorry. My mistake. Sam last week had a similar look on his... her face."

He shook his head at that. "Still not used to that concept just yet."

Cal shrugged slightly. "I was one of the lucky few," he offered, to make amends for the comment, although he certainly wasn't going to elaborate. "You really do get used to all this, though, I swear. I was indoctrinated on my first week, but, I mean, I'm pretty jaded for my youth, too."

"Jaded, huh?" Indy replied. "So this is all old hat for you now."

"Well, I don't know if I'd say old hat," Cal shrugged, although, if you got into specifics and considered the gender change thing, it was fitting, "more like I just..am not going to let it shake me, you know? Just as crazy things happen in real life; Fandom's just lacking subtlety."

Indy chuckled at that. "So the big things are no big deal, it's the small stuff that gets to you?"

Cal's head tilted as he ruminated over that. "You know," he said, "I think that might actually be pretty accurate. Turn me into as many weird ass animals as you can, it's when my socks go missing that I'm all irritated."

There was a thoughtful, frowning pause. "Is that weird?"

"Nah," Indy joked. "Just means you're jaded."

Cal put up his bruised legs on the desk and leaned back in his chair, relaxing with a book to take his mind off the pain that had only inflamed because he was an idiot who kept poking at the marks.

Cal was there with a sandwich, but the library was closed to all but the librarian and the other aides.

Crutches. Maybe he could get crutched. That stupid brat had kicked him hard enough that he wouldn't be surprised if something had broken.

Okay, if they were broken, he wouldn't be able to walk on his legs, right?

He'd go look it up if it didn't mean getting up. Besides, Fanbutt should be coming in for her quiz at any moment.

And look at that, there she was. Giving him a look over the leg.

"Fanbutt!" Cal moved his leg, putting it down with care to not show any sign of wincing. The last thing he needed was for her to have fuel for the fire of teasing him. "Here for you very important geography quiz?"

"Why else would I be?" She asked, following the movement of his leg idly.

"Oh, what, you wouldn't stop by to just visit me?" Cal asked, feigning injury. "You didn't have a geography quiz last week when you came in."

Temari smirked, hands spread on the desk between them. "Are you going to quiz me, or are we going to discuss radio?"

Cal groan, rolling his eyes. "So not worth the twenty bucks I got for it," he muttered. "And there's nothing to discuss. Quiz time. Let's go."

He reached for a pad of paper, clicked a pen with his thumb. "Tell me," he asked, straightening importantly, "do you prefer oral?"

"Receiving or giving?" Because, really, if he expected her to respond to that seriously, he was off his rocker.

Cal just smirked at that. "I think in this case," he said, "you'd technically be giving."

"Are you going to start any time soon?" She asked, ducking the question with a practiced ease.
