The Library; Monday [ 09/29. ]

Cal limped (yes, limped, and pretty badly, too) into the library that morning to open it, grumbling into his coffee about a hatred for radio that had very firmly exceeded his previous apathy about it. Not only for radio, but also for all things small, amphibious, and shelled. He'd always been more of a frog person himself.

The pile of books waiting to be shelved got quite the glare, as well. Once he sat down, he wasn't moving. Not with those bruises on his shins.

"Fanbutt!" Cal moved his leg, putting it down with care to not show any sign of wincing. The last thing he needed was for her to have fuel for the fire of teasing him. "Here for you very important geography quiz?"

"Why else would I be?" She asked, following the movement of his leg idly.

"Oh, what, you wouldn't stop by to just visit me?" Cal asked, feigning injury. "You didn't have a geography quiz last week when you came in."

Temari smirked, hands spread on the desk between them. "Are you going to quiz me, or are we going to discuss radio?"

Cal groan, rolling his eyes. "So not worth the twenty bucks I got for it," he muttered. "And there's nothing to discuss. Quiz time. Let's go."

He reached for a pad of paper, clicked a pen with his thumb. "Tell me," he asked, straightening importantly, "do you prefer oral?"

"Receiving or giving?" Because, really, if he expected her to respond to that seriously, he was off his rocker.

Cal just smirked at that. "I think in this case," he said, "you'd technically be giving."

"Are you going to start any time soon?" She asked, ducking the question with a practiced ease.

"Patience," Cal said, shaking his head slightly. "Patience, my young pupil, is a virtue to be practiced and maintained."

There was a slight pause, and he drew a number one on the notebook, circling it.

"We'll start with Michigan."

"Lansing." She made sure to remember that one.

Cal dutifully wrote it down with a smirk. She had to have known that if she didn't get that one, he'd never let her forget it.

"Alabama...."

He would have an actual quiz prepared.

Smirking, Temari shook her head and settled in to answer all fifty-- really, did one country need so many states and cities?--capitals.

At least she knew she wouldn't get too many wrong.

And Cal rattled them off, alphabetical now with that one exception, which, eventually, brought them around to, "Annnd, finally, Wyoming."

"Cheyenne, want me to spell it for you?"

"Yes, please."

Hey, she asked.

"Tough," Temari replied, hopping up to sit on the edge of the desk. "Did I pass?"

"I think so," Cal had to admit as he looked over the list of capitals. "Points off for not spelling Cheyenne, though, tsk tsk. Let me just grab my answer key here..." He reached under a pile of books for a sheet of paper, the master list of states to capitals.

"It's not even my alphabet, Sparkles. You should be glad I can pronounce all those damn names."

"Hey, not everything's as easy to pronounce as Fanbutt; most of them are either Native American names, or presidents. Or Lansing."

"Sp I passed?" She prompted.

"Remember what I said," Cal commented, loftily, as he made a mark on the list, "about patience?"

"Not really, no," Temari replied, looking over her nails.

"That's funny," Cal replied, handing over the notebook paper with Temari's score on it, his eyes leveled on her with amusement, "how someone who can remember most of the state capitals so well can't remember something said about fifteen minutes ago."

"Call it selective memory," Temari replied, smirking and taking the paper. "I learned to tune a lot out with my brother around."

Cal snorted slightly at that. Brother. Just what he needed to hear in light of what Ino and he had talked about. Being herded into the fold without knowledge, much less consent.

"How do you know," he kept his gaze leveled, but it lost some of its amusement, "that you won't miss anything important?"
