When students arrived, they would find the Danger Shop was set up like a traditional gymnasium, complete with a changing rooms and really high ceilings.

Most of the gym floor was covered in thick, blue mats, with the enormous, body sinking type mats stacked underneath three ropes that dangled from the ceiling. Next to these ropes stood a giant of a man who also happened to be the gym teacher.

"My name's Ronon Dex. You'll call me Sir." Ronon smiled as he looked around at his students, noting familiar faces and cataloging new ones. "Okay, first class gets the intro thing, but only after you introduce yourself to the rope." He gestured the thumb of one fist toward the three ropes in question, which students would note differed only in how many knots were tied in them and how high up on the rope lay a wide red line. "Climb to the red line and slide back down." Ronon grabbed hold of the rope with his large hands and swung himself quickly up to the top moving hand over hand until he touched the red line. Sliding most of the way down quickly, Ronon leaped back to the ground and wiped his hands on his leather pants.

"Easy enough, but first I'm told you need a uniform. You've got five minutes." Ronon crossed his arms, expecting them to move, and fast.

[someday I'll figure out the date *facepalm*]

Class started too early in the morning, in a science classroom equipped with lab tables, Bunsen burners, and the faint smell of past explosions gone wrong. Safety goggles and gloves were at each workstation, as were supplies that might look familiar to anyone who'd taken a class with Professor Durden before.

Said professor leaned against his desk, watching and assessing the students as they came in.

"Hey," he greeted the class. "Welcome to Chemistry You Can Use. If you've taken a class with me before, welcome back; if you're new, welcome for the first time; and if you want to call me a stickbug, wait until after class."

"This semester is going to be about the cool parts of chemistry. I'll explain the science, don't worry, but most of it is going to be about actions, reactions, and getting things to happen. For that reason, we're going to go kind of fast, but if you need more explanation, let me know and I'll slow down. We aren't in the danger shop most weeks, and we'll be playing with a lot of things that can get you hurt. I'm not your mom, I'm not going to chase you down and force you to wear goggles and gloves -- though I recommend it -- but don't be stupid. If I tell you to quit doing what you're doing, quit it. You put the rest of the class in danger, you get detention. That's my one big rule." He would come up with smaller ones if he had to.

"This week, and I know this is old hat for some of you, we're making soap. Technically" -- he grinned -- "we are creating the alkali salt of a fatty acid." He went through a thumbnail lecture on the science of that. "If you've done it before, try to do it better, or add scents or herbs this time."

"Miss Yamanaka, please see me after class." His tone on that was pointed. "And I need at least one TA, if anybody's up for it."

"But first, introductions. Name, grade, why you're here, and who you would fight if you could fight anyone, living or dead, fictional people included." He jabbed his finger randomly toward a student. "You first."

[OOC: No, this wasn't just in the wrong journal. *handwaves*]

The Danger Shop was the place to be for students who were taking the Doctor's class. Conveniently, the Doctor was there and had programmed it to look like a cocktail party. People seemed to be mingling about and there were little holographic canapés and non-alcoholic drinks being served.

The Doctor met the students at the door. "Hello, I'm the Doctor. This is History in Living Colour and there's a syllabus to grab on the way out if you don't want to be surprised by what's coming up. I went to a lot of trouble to make those, so don't go making paper aeroplanes out of them or anything." They did make for great paper aeroplanes though. He'd tried it earlier. "The class will be about Earth's history, so if you know absolutely nothing about Earth, I suggest picking up a book and giving yourself a crash course or asking around. I'll be assuming you know at least something about the planet you're on by next week. Right! Lesson one. History is about the people. Inside you'll find three different men who have played a significant role in the development of Earth's history.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States and one of the most significant. Gave some great speeches. Never gets old listening to them. He's the fellow with the big hat.

Socrates is the guy in the toga. Greek. He's one of the founders of Western philosophy and has a good appreciation for irony.

Then there's Sigmund Freud. He's the one in the suit with the cigar. He had a lot on his mind and an obsession with mothers and phallic objects. Well, there's more to it, but I don't want to spoil all the fun.

Today's class is simple. Go in there, mingle, get to know each other, introduce yourselves and then go corner Abe, Socrates or Freud and ask them a question or two, and for the purposes of the exercise, they can all speak English."
