tyler_gone: (clasping fists)

Tyler didn't seem especially inclined to chit-chat as he started class today, but that wasn't so far from his norm.

"All right," he said, once the students were all seated. "So you have a house -- decorated to your specifications -- and a job, and what you need is something to do in your down time. Drinking yourself into a coma is always a popular choice, and so is watching TV until your brain turns to goop. But on the off chance you need something more active to do and don't already spend all your time on the Internet arguing about plot holes in the new Z-Cases Movie, hobbies are good things. And knitting is a really popular hobby."

He held up a skein of gray yarn with knitting needles through it. "I learned to do this here. Eleven years ago, I could make a scarf. Right now, I can make a slightly better scarf. Here's how." He explained and demonstrated knitting, looking oddly proud of himself as he finished a few rows.

"The other popular thing to knit in Fandom, and I do not wanna know why, is dildo cozies." He held up one that looked like a very long, very skinny sock made from neon purple yarn. "There are patterns for those on your tables, should you feel so inspired."

"And that is it from me for the day, go ahead and knit. I'll be around."

Library [15.08]

Karal arrived early this morning, got the library opened up, and settled behind the counter to think while Altra curled up on the counter and Evey went to wander through the stacks.

At irregular intervals, there would be a click of hooves, a polite little deer cough, and Altra would raise his head so Karal could see Evey peering around the end of a shelf, waiting for Karal to come and get a book down for her.

It was the most adorable thing Karal had ever seen, but he carefully didn't let it show. Somehow, he didn't think Evey would appreciate it.

The Danger Shop was a castle on a mountain, and overhead black clouds roiled, thunder crashing and lightning streaking out to light up the sky.

Igor was in his element. "Welcome to Uberwald!" he said, leading the students out onto the castle's battlements. "I hope everyone brought their lightning rodth, becauthe today you're going to bring your creatureth to life." Scraps yipped excitedly and bounced around Igor, as if sensing he'd soon have playmates, even if they were only solid holograms.

"Your creatureth from last week have been thtored, and you'll find them over there." He pointed. "Wire them up to your lightning rod, thtep far back, and wait. The power of the lightning will bring them to life! Don't get too attached, though, it will only latht as long as the clath."

There was a handwavy note to all of the students today to meet in the park. The TARDIS was nearby, but today the workshop was being held out in the open where you could look around and breathe in the fresh air. That is, if you managed to get to the park without getting lost.

"As much as I hate to admit it," the Doctor said once the students had gathered, "every now and then things don't go according to plan. No matter what you do, no matter how clever you are, sometimes you'll find yourself in a situation you can't get out of. Most of the time that will involve being stuck wherever you happen to be at the time with no way to get home. Today isn't about finding a way out. It's about preparing yourself for the possibility that there is no way out.

You're all stuck on a planet on the distance side of the galaxy from your home. The people are nice enough, if a bit simple because their technology is hasn't developed to your standards yet. There's definitely no space travel and aliens are unheard of. But you look close enough to the native population to fit in and you've found yourself a community where people won't ask too many questions.

What do you do? Do you keep fighting until your dying day to get home? Do you make a new home for yourself? What kind of work would you look for? Will you buy a house? Find someone? Fall in love and settle down? You may not have the choice of whether or not you can leave, but everything else is up to you.

Also, back here next week. Field trip. Wear comfortable clothing so you can fit in. We'll be putting what you learned into practice in a real setting with very real consequences, so I expect you to all be ready and on time. We'll be back by the end of the period."
doubleohblonde: (Bond is stylish on vacation)

Despite the fact he was wearing eye-bleedingly colourful shorts, Bond was managing to make them look stylish, even attractive. He did not look very happy about it though.

Bond waited until the class had assembled to begin speaking. "Good morning, class. Before we begin today, I would like you all to put on the provided safety equipment," he said, indicating a pile of climbing harnesses, which, as they would have discovered while they donned them, were all connected to each other by several-metres-long lengths of cabling.

After the class had finished getting into their safety gear, Bond took hold of the nearest free length of cable and led them all down to the school grounds, where they would have been able to see a croquet field set up.

So, they were tied to each other to play croquet. In public. The class would have been forgiven for thinking there was something slightly off about this.

Bond quickly gave a lecture about the history and rules of the game, finishing with "Oh, and do remember to keep your harnesses on at all times, so you won't get lost. I really would prefer to end the class with the same number of students I started with."

It was entirely possible that Bond was channelling some issues about about the shorts here.
