The Chef wasn't in the cafeteria today. Mostly because he had turned into a alligator. And also because he needed to catch up with the soaps he Tivo'd. So Das Schnitzel had to throw together a menu.

Today's Menu:

-Turkey Sandwiches

-Dog Food

-Salad

-Beef Jerky

Ron has somehow managed to scrounge up a bunch of snacks but most of it appears to have been gathered from the cupboards of the third floor common room and technically a bag of flour is probably not a snack.

After the club members had joined, Ron introduced himself again and brought up today's topic.

"Most of you know what it is like to let your best mate take the limelight," Ron started, "And I'm not going to argue that they don't deserve it. Every once an a while though a situation comes along where as their best mates we have to step forward in order to turn things around. For instance last year I was a keeper for our Quidditch team and-"

What followed was a very long and detailed play by play anecdote of Ron's finest hour at last year's Quidditch game. Once he finally finished the story (and being oblivious to any yawns and eyerolls on other peoples parts) he flashed a grin at his fellow club members.

"So anyhow I thought today everyone could relate their own big story. Who's up next?"

[ooc: No OCD today. Go for it!]

When the class filed into the Danger Shop today, they found themselves standing in ankle deep water. Looking further into the room showed the streets of Fandom, flooded with water much deeper than ankle depth.

"Good morning," John said, from his slightly raised -- and dry -- spot. "Last week, we saw how strange weather often leads to even stranger things. This week we're focusing on natural disasters, which in Fandom seem to be rarely natural, or the worst thing you have to worry about.

"We're an island so a spot of flooding may seem like a perfectly logical -- though sucky -- occurrance. But Fandom doesn't get just a flood." He gestured at the waterlogged streets. "More than just excess water's swept into town.

"For this class, I'd like you to pair up, and go exploring. Take with you only what you would if you woke up one morning and saw this outside your window -- the Danger Shop will create your requests if they are reasonable. See if you can find anything that might be a clue to why there's a flood -- they really shouldn't be too hard to spot." John smiled wolfishly. "Just try to not let any 'clues' wallop you."

"Afternoon, kids," Rose said with a nod, "so, continuin' on from our last class we're going to go on with communication. Specifically, the popular ways of communicatin' in this era. An' that would be mobile phones an' the computer."

She passed each item around. "Mobile phones or to Americans, cellphones are portable communication devices, wireless phones. Technology permitting you can call anybody 'round the globe with these little buggers-- er, I mean, these little gadgets. Every year these things get smaller an' smaller or turn into these," and proceeded to pull out an iPhone. "Beautiful thing, ain't it?"

This she also passed around. "Almost a computer in itself. Speakin' of computers," she gestured to the laptop, "these things have really come around since it was first invented now people can do practically anything with computers an' not least, you can actually speak an' see the people your talking to." Rose pressed a few keystrokes and a screen with another person on the end appeared, it was a blond man with spiky hair who looked like he'd been roused from sleep.

"What?"

"Hey, Jake--"

"Rose??" The man glared, "d'you know what time it is?"

"Say hello to my class, Jake."

"Bugger off." He said by way of greeting.

Rose shook her head and grinned. Something in her smile indicated her timing was planned. "Good to know your still up, go back to your beauty sleep." She cut off the connection. "See? That easy. So I'm gonna hand over these things to you folk and let you guys get accustomed to these wonderful technologies. As for our show and tell Blackie if he's here has agreed to do our show and tell for today and show us the wonders of Hell."

Peter had a copy of this week's paper for everyone today. Of course, those papers were folded into paper hats.

He liked paper hats, okay?

There was also pastries and coffee for everyone.

[OOC: Sorry about the lateishness of posting this. It's just following in the fine tradition of the newspaper.

Oh, and if any staff still needs to check their invites with any journals and become a member at the paper comm, now would be a good time to do so.]

"Good morning, students. This is Harriet Jones, your Dean here.

Just a quick note of warning. People seem to be having a bit of difficulty retaining their--"

*chittering*

*scrabbling noise as if, perhaps, a certain Dean had been replaced with a lemur*

*more chittering, this time quite annoyed*

"--AS I was saying! They're having difficulty retaining their shape. So if you do come across an unexpected animal, please treat it with respect as it's likely to be a fellow student."

There was a long moment of silence, then a very quietly muttered, "I'm sure this is not what they mean by World Animal Day."

When the Communication students arrived for class, they'd find a new teacher sitting up the front of the class. Asleep, with his feet on the desk. When everyone had arrived and taken their seats, he opened one eye. "Let's do this thing!" He jumped to his feet and paced around the classroom, waving his hands as he spoke.

This is not the greatest class in the world, it's just a tribute )

[Dewey is just a substitute -- we're looking for a permanent teacher for this class. Interested? Check out this post for details!]
