Popular Culture [Thrusday, October 4, 4th Period]
"Afternoon, kids," Rose said with a nod, "so, continuin' on from our last class we're going to go on with communication. Specifically, the popular ways of communicatin' in this era. An' that would be mobile phones an' the computer."
She passed each item around. "Mobile phones or to Americans, cellphones are portable communication devices, wireless phones. Technology permitting you can call anybody 'round the globe with these little buggers-- er, I mean, these little gadgets. Every year these things get smaller an' smaller or turn into these," and proceeded to pull out an iPhone. "Beautiful thing, ain't it?"
This she also passed around. "Almost a computer in itself. Speakin' of computers," she gestured to the laptop, "these things have really come around since it was first invented now people can do practically anything with computers an' not least, you can actually speak an' see the people your talking to." Rose pressed a few keystrokes and a screen with another person on the end appeared, it was a blond man with spiky hair who looked like he'd been roused from sleep.
"What?"
"Hey, Jake--"
"Rose??" The man glared, "d'you know what time it is?"
"Say hello to my class, Jake."
"Bugger off." He said by way of greeting.
Rose shook her head and grinned. Something in her smile indicated her timing was planned. "Good to know your still up, go back to your beauty sleep." She cut off the connection. "See? That easy. So I'm gonna hand over these things to you folk and let you guys get accustomed to these wonderful technologies. As for our show and tell Blackie

Mobilephones (10/4/07)
Re: Mobilephones (10/4/07)
There were many, many buttons.
...
He hoped his father would never figure out how to use these things. The man would become so much more annoying if he did.

"I suppose that's one way to look at it."
Of course, back lighting didn't turn him off one bit. So salvation wasn't quite at hand.

"Hello?" she said, but the phone just rang again.
She pulled it away from her ear and looked at it again before setting it back down on the desk.

When Faile realized this, she picked it up and said, "Hello?"

Show and Tell
(Please wait for Blackheart to ping-in)
Re: Show and Tell
"There's a lot of culture in Hell." he began, eying the class up and daring anyone to interrupt. He'd like that. "This can be attributed to the fact that potentially anyone, regardless of race and nationality, could end up there
pending they prescribe to the corresponding beliefs system, work with me here. So I'm not going to bother going into explaining all of the social nuances. There are far too many, and people typically spend their time screaming anyhow."He held up the candle and he grinned.
"Today, I'm just going to play with fire." The wick of the candle flickered, and then seemed to light itself as he held it forward for the class to get a better view. "Fire is the be-all and end-all of technology in Hell. If you have a problem, you can burn it away. It serves as a method of transportation, a means of binding a mortal to a contract..."
His eyes might have lit up as he broke into something of a grin.
"And an excellent way to modify metal-based accessories to suit your personal sense of fashion."
This, of course, was the important part.
He held the iPhone in the flame, and the fire seemed to creep over it as though it was trying to engulf a gasoline spill. In turn, rather than melting, the metal twisted and shifted, little claws and spikes emerging from it, all surrounding a fanged skull that was centered on the phone's case.
"For the most part, it really doesn't have much more than aesthetic value," he explained as he held the... somewhat modified iPhone up for the class to see, "but it can be used on anything made of metal."
He set the candle and the phone down on his desk, smirking a little.
"If you have anything metallic that you'd like to try it on, feel free before I blow out the candle."

She had asked for it, after all.

Re: Show and Tell
"It isn't broken. It just looks different."
And probably checks e-mail en route from Hell. But he wasn't going to mention that part.
"But if you insist, I suppose I've just purchased myself a new phone."

OOC: 10/4/07
Re: OOC: 10/4/07
Also, I apologize over my show-and-tell running just as long as the class lecture. Blackheart, he's ever the showoff.
He'd apologize about the phone, but he thinks it looks better this way.
