The display screens were flashing through a slideshow of mirrors this morning, but the students may or may not have been more inclined to notice the man at the front of the room with Sakura: a cocky-looking Sephiroth wannabe figure in a long black coat with an white collar, who was leaning back against the wall crunching away at a raw stalk of celery with apparent relish.

Sakura looked like she was trying very hard not to cringe every time he bit into the celery, but for all that she did appear to have some glimmer of genuine affection for him.

"Good morning, class," she said. "As I mentioned last week, this is my colleague Eiji Takaoka. He currently heads the SGS Rescue emergency response program, but the reason he's here today is to talk with you about his experiences in his previous occupation. How this is relevant to our discussion of mirrors as unique artifacts will become apparent shortly. )

There was a large target at one end of the class.

Liz appeared to be hunkered down behind a bunker made of bags of marshmallow peeps.

The Friz was in a combat helmet and camo-print dress.

This could only mean one thing.

"Marshmallow launchers, class!" Ms Frizzle announced. "Time to explore the wonders of physics and their practical application in the precise and accurate long-distance shooting of sugary confectionary! Your materials are here, some blueprints are here, and if you have to wait to test-fire, I do have a microwave for some good old-fashioned peep jousting!"

And then, for good measure, "WAHOO!"

[[OCD on the way! Up! I am heading to my Grandma's for Easter this afternoon, but I will hopefully be able to get online once I'm there later this evening. Happy almost-Easter!

ETA: I've played with the syllabus a bit because I'm an idiot. Valentine, we still on for exploration of your body not dirty?]]

Elliot was all business as she walked into the classroom today. "Hey. Okay, we are on our last bodily system for the year -- the next three classes are dissection, review, and then the final. So I'm not sure whether that is excellent news or very sad news for you guys, but either way, we are on the urinary system."

She passed out a handout describing the system. "The main parts are the kidneys, ureters, bladder, sphincter muscles and urethra. And as you may have guessed, it's the part of your body that makes, stores and excretes urine. Think of it as kind of your body's filtration system." She continued explaining the parts, then pointed to tables in the back of the classroom. They were covered in tubing, coffee and air filters, bottles of water, small pumps, balloons, and -- because no craft project was complete without them -- glitter, Popsicle sticks and feathers. "It's one of the simpler organ systems to model, so what I want you to do is to get in small groups and build a model of the urinary system. And, um, please don't replace the water with Mountain Dew for a more realistic effect, it gets everything sticky. You have the whole class to work on that."

She leaned back against her table to watch the students work.

"Alright boys, I promised you last week we'd do something you'd be more interested in, and we are. But don't worry, girls, still plenty of eye candy in this one. Today we're going to be looking at the Bund series, both the novels by Ian Fleming, which started it all, and the various movies. Even a little bit of the various assorted parodies."

Daisy handed out a series of information sheets and showed a few clips of the different Bund movies and the actors. "Now, my question for you, this week, is what is it, exactly, about this character, that makes him so popular? How has it endured over the last half a century? What are some of the political and historical themes that have had to change, especially since the end of the cold war? And, of course, who was the best Bund?"

[ooc: Waaaaaait for it, OCD is up! Don't forget to meta!]

Roslin was seated at the front of the classroom, clad in one of her favorite sweaters, layered with a tee shirt and khakis. The brisk wind outside had blown her hair about and, despite her efforts to smooth it down, it was still a bit windblown. As students entered, she remained focused on the file laying open on her desk. She occasionally wrote notes in the margins, frowning.

As the bell rang, she removed her glasses and regarded the class. "Good afternoon, all," she said. "I hope you've had a wonderful week and are looking forward to the weekend. Today, as I'm elbow deep in plotting an invasion other responsibilities, we're going to try something a little different.

"In a group, discuss the things necessary to carry on society on a long space journey, whether it be food and water or paper and pens; one person should take notes and write all of this down. Then I want you to imagine you are on a long trip, traveling through space, and suddenly you find your supplies limited. Think about how long your resources are going to last; decide how the best way to manage those limited resources is going to be. Not everyone will be military or flight crew. How will you organize your society and maintain order? In short, design your own space-faring society, and make sure you turn it in before the end of class.

"Let me know if you have any questions."

Giving a taut smile, Laura left the students to their own devices and returned her attention to her work. She was, of course, available if questions arose.

Ami looked tired. She sounded tired too.

"Hi everyone. I have set up some chess boards. Those who won the matches last time, pair up with other winners to see who wins this time, and those who lost can play other people who lost, for second place. There is food and stuff."

She then sat down and tried to not fall asleep in her seat.

Rory was tucked away in the back, tapping on her computer and deep in concentration.

Josh looked at the syllabus. "Okay, today we're supposed to talk about state and local governments, but they're not nearly as interesting as the federal level. Think what I taught you about national government, shrink it down to the state level, give it to less competent people in cheaper suits and you've got the general idea."

He waved a hand. "Also, it turns out that I'm supposed to be visiting my mother for Passover today and my tickets are making me go through Atlanta which blows. Discuss that. Or, you know, local government. Whatever."

Mmm. Matzo.

If Josh has to suffer, so does everyone else at lunchtime, dammit.

"Prom, prom, more prom, prom court, prom tickets, blah, blah, et cetera," he said, waving his hands around. "Go, talk, do."

Before the assembly, The Tick used the same mysterious process that chooses students for the detention lottery for another purpose.

He had written a play. Destiny told him that all the world was a stage and he was but a player, meaning that he was playing the part of someone that got people to play parts that he created. It was very meta.

Anyway, the curtains opened to start the assembly. It was time for The Tick's first play: A Time for Bagpipes.

[OOC: Cast, please handwave getting roped into this as a result of the announcements this morning. It may be a good idea to look at the plottery post to see what I told different people just so you can be better prepared.

Again, I'm very sorry about the last minuteness and the general WTFery of this. Feel free to go nuts, though. This is a play by The Tick that you had at best a couple hours to look over. Things need not make sense have fun. And thank you for volunteering and attempting to make this work!

Oh, and people in the later acts, don't feel obliged to wait for people in earlier acts. Jump in whenever.]
[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com
"Hello, chums, and welcome to Friday! This is The Tick! The following students are not being named for detention. Nay! I have a special task for them and will need their assistance during today's assembly! Again, this is not punishment! This is help!"

"Seely Booth
John Conner
John Crichton
Annette Hargrove
Katara
Cassie Lang
Peter Petrelli
Sokka
Dawn Summers
Naomi Wildman
Dean Winchester"

"Please see me in the auditorium before the assembly. Thanks, chums!"

[OOC: The easy way of getting my play volunteers together! Handwave initial meeting, please, and look for the assembly post coming up soon.]
