"Good morning," Ellie greeted the class as the students arrived. "I recognize some of you, and it's good to see you back. I'm Dr. Ellie Arroway, but you can call me Ellie. I'm a big fan of short classes on the first day, so I'm just going to give you an overview of what the class will be this semester, see if you have any questions, and then let you go.

"Essentially, each session of this class will have a guest speaker from an extraterrestrial culture. Some of them will be students or teachers I recruit from the school, and many will be new to Fandom. They will give an overview on what life is like on their world, and the differences between their culture and life on Earth. You're encouraged to ask questions.

For today, I'd just like you to introduce yourselves and tell me why you're taking this class. I'll be here if you have any questions, otherwise you're free to go."

Geordi sat behind his desk as he waited for his students to enter the classroom. Once everyone was seated and the noise had calmed down he stood up and walked around to the front of his desk. He surveyed the class before he spoke, “Good morning and welcome to Engineering 101,” he said in a clear voice, hoping that his nervousness wasn’t visible, “I’m Lieutenant Commander Geordi LaForge, you may address me as either Commander or Professor LaForge, I have no preference as to which.”

Because it was a familiar and convenient setting, Sakura had set up her classroom as a replica of the the command room at SGS Japan headquarters. Several padded benches lined the walls of the main part of the room, and up in the loft, where a lounge chair stood in actual headquarters, several more benches were lined up. A large yellow table, vaguely trefoil-shaped, occupied the center of the room.

Up front with clipboard in hand to check off students' names as they arrived, Sakura stood in front of an array of three tall display screens.

"Good morning," she said once everyone was seated. "My name is Sakura Nishihori, and I will be your instructor for this course. ( Before we begin . . . )
