When the students came into the Danger Room, they found John leaning against the by-now familiar black car, the mainstreet of a small town behind him.

"Good afternoon," John said when they all had arrived. "First an announcement. I won't be having office hours tomorrow as something has come up and I need to go out of town for the weekend. If you have anything you need to discuss, you can see me after class or wait until my office hours next Tuesday.

Your mission should you choose to accept it... )

[ooc: wait for the ocd's are up. Have at it. Oh and this class? Dedicated to Callisto. :)]

Abby greeted the class with a flash from the digital camera she held. "I hope everyone got the handwavy email I sent asking you to bring an item to sell. If not, you've got to pick something that you have on you."

Abby directed each of the students over to a section of the lab that she set up for taking pictures. "Once we've got your pictures uploaded you've got to come up with a good description for your item. You have to balance powerful 'selling words' with not totally lying. It should be fun."

"After you've done that, feel free to shop as you watch the bids roll in."

The strains of Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War" greeted the students today as they arrive. Ellie had several pictures of Mars on display as she began the lecture.

Josh smiled as the campaigning class came in. "Hope you all enjoyed Homecoming," he said. "Isabel, how many days until the election?" He waited for her answer before continuing. "Today we talk about polling."

He turned to the board. "Polling provides two major things that campaigns can't live without," he said, beginning to write. "It provides a political profile of the state, and an opportunity to see if your message is resonating with the people you want it to.

After handing back their exams, Josh turned to point at the board where he had scrawled "EXECUTIVE BRANCH" in huge letters.

"Morning," he said. "Today we begin talking about the Executive Branch and why it is so completely superior to all other branches of government. Because we get a motorcade and the rest of them don't, among many, many other reasons."

He smiled. "Okay. The Executive Branch. The Presidency. We'll be spending a couple of classes on this since, as you might've guessed, I'm a big fan of this particular branch."

He coughed and the three teal deer who had started hanging out by Josh's classroom window gave him a dirty look. And lo, Josh talked and talked and talked. Shocking. )

He sat down. "Today's question: you're the President and just dying to issue an executive order. What do you declare?"

Another night making friends with Mr. Miller and Mr. Daniels has left Jesse a bit less than exuberant this morning. He's standing by an open window when the first student enters and might possibly have flicked a cigarette away like a guy caught smoking in the boys room.

The handouts are waiting with the sign-in sheet and Jesse starts up as soon as everyone has taken a seat.

"When you think about religions, you probably think about a god or gods. Thing is, we've talked about more than one religion in this class that doesn't have that. Buddhism1 is another one. Buddha's not a god, he's an enlightened person. Anyone has the potential to be a Buddha, if they just wake up and see existence for what it really is. You could argue that Jesus was a Buddha. And Mohammed.

"Siddhartha Gautama2 is the guy most folks are probably thinking of when they say 'Buddha.' He's a Buddha, but he's also the Buddha, since he's the guy behind the religion we currently call Buddhism."

I teach one thing and one thing only: suffering and the end of suffering )

Sam tried to carefully balance all of the books he was carrying in one arm as he opened up the library.

This week when students entered the Danger Shop, it was set up as the inside of an armory, about the size and shape as last week's soda ware house but with weapons instead of bottling supplies. You'd think it was the same set redressed; funny, that. Janice was sitting atop a crate that (if anyone could read Old Persian) was labelled "Poison-Tipped Arrows." The students' tables had been set up to face the door, and there were plates of nutbread and carrot cake within easy reach.

'Welcome to Tripolis.' )

[OOC: Class Info Post. I am really sorry for the kinda crappy class today but I've been blindsided by a cold and my brain is fuzzy. And yes, daytime availability is going to suck again today. Sigh. I'll do what I can, and pick up when I get home. OCD up!]
