Rory meandered into the library half-asleep and with a bit of newsprint across her forehead.

Falling asleep on top of back issues of the paper wasn't the best idea ever.

"Good afternoon, class," El said as they entered. "Today we'll be working on something a little different. Our previous few dances have focused on life and passion and energy. They have had steps but allowed for improvisation. Today, however, we shall work on something with dignity and elegance."

He bowed a little. "The Waltz. Now, as you know, one of the most defining characteristics of a waltz is its 3/4 beat, such to the point that anyone with a fairly good ear for music can recognize a waltz almost immedieatly upon hearing it.

"This dance has been with us for hundred of years, so there are, unsuprisingly, many variation to it. We will learn two in this class. International Standard Waltz, or slow waltz is the first. It is slow, dignified, and standardized. It will earn you points in any formal dancing event and is suitable for use in international competition. Nadia, if you would be so kind as to demonstrate with me."

El went through all the steps of the Waltz, showing the class what to do.

"The second type is Viennese Waltz, a faster, more contemporary dance. I thought you might enjoy it a little more."

He demonstrated the steps again with Nadia, broke off from her, and nodded. "Alright, by now, you should know what comes next." He walked over to his guitar case, knelt down in front of it, and pulled it out. "Practice! Practice is the key to everything. All day... every day."

"Good afternoon, class!"

Ms Frizzle was sitting on her lab bench with her legs swinging, today dressed in a jumpsuit that wouldn't have been out of place at a race track. She even had endorsement patches, but of course with mathematical symbols on them. Students might have noticed that fact that the hallway outside the classroom had a strip of paper down the middle of it that might have resembled a paved road.

"We're still talking about motion! No field trip today, but today you'll have a chance to let out all that creative, engineering ability I know you possess. We're going to be making balloon cars!" She waved the package of balloons over her head. "Your challenge is simple, class! Construct a vehicle that will travel propelled by a single balloon and at the end of the class -" She thrust a hand in the air, "It's off to the races! I have prizes for fastest car and farthest travelled in a straight line. Pair up if you really want to, or you can work on them alone! Use what you find around the classroom and if you need anything else, talk to me and I'll see what I can do!"

"Alright, children! Time to take chances! Get messy! And make . . . balloon cars!"

[[Wait for OCD. WAHOO! You're good to go! I'm around all day except for errands, but my parents are coming tomorrow so I'm cleaning and such like a madwoman. And there are some more ideas here]]

Unfortunately there were no scones or cookies or other yummy treats today. There was tea and coffee but that had been all that Wilson was up to pulling together. He was there, leaning against the desk in his habitual suit and tie, though his right arm was heavily bandaged and a sling held it bundled close to his body. He’d set aside his pain pills in exchange for being sharp and alert for class and was staring down at the floor as if he might be seriously regretting that decision.

Of all the times for his TA to be MIA.

As the students settled into their chairs, Wilson pushed off the front of the desk, to start his lecture as Lyra began to pass out a handout for the day’s lecture.

Honor was in her usual position at the front of the classroom, leant against the front of the desk, arms folded across her chest, with Nimitz looking out from the perch on her shoulder. The usual assortment of hot chocolate, coffee, water, and whatever else Mac saw fit to drag in waited by the sign-in sheet just inside the door.

As time for the class approached, the admiral glanced up at the clock and rubbed the tip of her nose. She regarded the students with a smile. "Thirty second warning: wrap up any asides and pull out your notes from last week."

Honor waited a few more minutes, then began... )

"We'll wrap up early today," she said, pursing her lips. "Next week, we'll be discussing medieval ideas of just war theory - ideas that still form the basis of Western tradition in current times - yours and mine." She smiled. "Make sure you review Secunda Secundae Partis of the Summa Theologica, with particular attention to question forty.

"Dismissed."

[Posting by e-mail today, as a way to get around the firewall. If the first person to sign-in, as well as respond to the discussion questions (in bold) would start the threads, I would appreciate it. For the sign-in, please make sure you use the "Reply" function so the thread collapses. Hopefully, I’ll have better access next week. Thanks!]

Self Defense Club

A few mats have been laid out in the gym, and pizza and lemonade stood on a table off to the side. Once everyone had come in, Alanna clapped her hands together a few times to get people's attention.

"Welcome to Self Defense people! I'm Alanna, this is Faithful, and this is Mr. Winchester, our sponsor. Rule number one? If one of us tells you to stop/freeze/do something, you do it. My goal is to have zero injuries this semester. Rule two: you hurt someone on purpose and you're going to wish you never met me." Alanna smiled sweetly. "This week we are just going to do the introducing and mingling thing, but next week? Wear comftorable clothes."

Carrying a stack of pizza boxes, Seely moved the furniture in the Ethics classroom to be a bit less classroom and a bit more frat. Sticking his feet up on the desk, he took a slice of pizza and waited for everyone to arrive.

Rory was tucked up with her laptop in the back, typing away as she watched people file in. There was coffee, of course, and pastries from J,GOB.

"Hi," she said, waving once everyone had come in. "I'm Rory. I think you all know that, since I don't see any unfamiliar faces. And you guys all know what you're doing, since you're veterans. So just let me know who wants to write this week, and I'll set you up with something Oh! And we have a new faculty advisor - Mr. Cale, who is really nice and letting us use his space and resources. So, you guys can volunteer for stuff, or just...hang out and enjoy my coffee."

The class was back in the gym that week. Yondaime had wheeled in a white board and written in large letters the word 'STAMINA' and sat in front of it as he waited for everyone to arrive with a smile on his face, feeling happy that he hadn't seen any of the frogs for a while.

"Good morning class! Glad to see everyone here bright an early as always," he grinned and motioned for everyone to take a seat on the floor. "Today we're going to be talking about stamina, which is your body's natural physical energy. Everyone has a different level of stamina but through physical activities and exercise you can build up your stamina and of course the opposite is true as well, don't exercise and you loose it." Yondaime shrugged figuring that it was all relatively simple to figure out. "The hard part is that over the course of this week until the next class I want each of you to figure out what your level of stamina is," he said as he began to hand out the sign up sheet that he forgot about before.

"The one catch, you must decide what you're going to do as a team and test each other then present the results to me next class. You can choose any sort of activity to test yourselves providing that it isn't sleeping, sitting, or something like it. It must involve movement, something that gets your heart rate up and going and try to choose something that can be shared with the rest of the class," the blond smirked and got up to his feet adding that last as and after thought. "You've got an hour to come up with something and present it to me. So have fun guys, I'll be here for questions."

The Doctor stood in front of the half circle of desks, beaming with a smile.

"Sorry about my absenteeism last week," he said. "But the only date of any exceeding heat I had was with a hot water bottle, despite rumors to the contrary."

He clapped his hands and rubbed them together.

"Now one of the things that will keep you alive in this universe is not taking things at face value. For instance, you think I'm just your average human looking alien, who happens to have a rather handsome nose and perfectly sized ears. But what if--"

Surprises and class await within! )
