[OOC: Keeping with the low-impact lectures. Wheee. I may be slow to reply at work today, just FYI. Class Info Post.]

"Hello, class!" Tick said fron his normal position at the front of the room. "Remember, your projects are due next Tuesday. You'll have some time to work on them at the end of class, but today we go back to lecture and discussion as well."

"Today we'll be talking about private investigators. PIs. Private eyes. Private smurfs," Tick said to cover up any potentially dirty interpretation of a popular nickname. "Gumshoes. Among many other names. The profession of Holmes, Spade, Magnum, and Addison. I'm talking about the sometimes noble, sometimes skeezy, always interesting, world of private detecting."

Class 21 )

[OOC: Veronica has offered to answer questions about PIs.]

"Good morning, class. Today, we're covering modern pop lyrics as poetry. I hope that you've all brought your presentations of a modern song as verse. As a special guest, I've brought a special guest -- Professor Theodore Logan of the Music Department."

"Oh, and for next week, I would like you to read Old Ironsides and Contentment by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., as well as Henry King and Rebecca by Hilaire Belloc."

Ms. Sidle is seated at her desk, petting her dog.

"You know the drill. Final exam today."

[ooc: Tell me the test grade and the semester grade, por favor.]

Nadia was actually being successfully sneaky! She'd written up this list while trying to cram for her Chemistry final. It was a great stress reliever.

The announcements are late today. After second period, even.

"Good morning. I hope no one suffered any adverse effects from the Marshmallow Peeps in the vending machines yesterday, which have since fallen silent again." Thankfully. It's a very annoying background noise in all the video feeds. "The chalkboards and whiteboards in some of the classrooms appear to be spontaneously rearranging anything written on them into insulting phrases. Please bear with us as we attempt to rectify the problem, and your cooperation in not instigating any fights due to this is appreciated. Thank you."

Sex Cultures

And then there were ten...

"So, group projects... perhaps not the best idea in hindsight, considering the amount of turnover in the student population of Fandom High."

"Instead, I am going to divide you into two groups with my fancy out-of-a-hat method."
Group A: Phoebe, Anders, Izzie, Alanna, Paige
Group B: Bel, Allie, Cally, Sawyer, Pip

"I'd like you each to show your example of a polyamorous culture, but in a context. Group A, present your culture to the class in a positive manner, as an acceptable social institution. Group B, present your culture to the class in a negative manner, and persuade us that the culture is an unacceptable social institution.

Your personal feelings may be different than your presentation, but perhaps playing Devil's Advocate might change some of your ideas on the subject. You'll be graded on the quality of your thoughts and their presentation, not on their content directly."

Zero opened up the library and took up a place behind the desk. She's in a very good mood this morning for some reason.

((OOC: I have to go AFK for a while, so Zero may be nonresponsive. Hopefully some other aides will be along to help you.))

"Today we're going to watch some political ads," Josh said, walking over to the television. "This has nothing to do with the notes I was writing on the board rearranging themselves to tell me that I was an expletive-deleted tax-and-spend liberal." He glared at the board behind him. "This school is weird."

He popped in a tape. "Pay particular attention to the Daisy ad, the Willie Horton ad, and the ad about the bear in the woods."

He sat down at his desk. "Then, discuss. Why do you think these work? What are they trying to tell the voters about the candidate? Their opponent? How to they make you feel?"

He waved his hands. "That kind of thing. Go. Talk."

The board behind Rita had the following message on it:

Shorthand. On my desk.

John, would you like to be a jockstrap? Because it could be arranged. So shh.

Possibly a bit preemptive, but whatever.

Camulus!Orlin waltzed into class, his kilt sashaying around him.

He grinned at the class and started the lecture. "Hello class of mine. I have a special suprise today for you all. Today, instead of being my normal grumpy and mean self, I'm being cheerful, friendly and nice. Now, about the Mab-Mab... " He peered at his notes closely, "Ah! The Mabinogian!. Today we are going over Owein and the Countess of the Fountain." He snorted, "What silly names these people have. Makes me sad that they actually existed to some extent in reality. Anyways, this ridiculously fabricated story takes place after Cynons finished.

Camulus!Orlin paused and looked at his notes again, and launched into the meat of the lecture.

As he finished the lecture he rolled his eyes and leaned against the desk, still looking amused. And bouncy.

Both Classes

Piper stands in front of the class, smiling. It might be a fake smile, though.

"Ms. Gilmore-Danes has a doctor's appointment today and I have no lecture for you. So basically, class is canceled. I know you're so very disappointed," she explains. "Please sign in before leaving. Or stay if you want. Whatever."

"Continuing with Ancient Egyptian religion, we're looking at their creation myths.

Lower Kingdm.

Only the ocean existed at first. Then Ra (the sun) came out of an egg that appeared on the surface of the water. Ra brought forth four children, the gods Shu and Geb and the goddesses Tefnut and Nut. Shu and Tefnut became the atmosphere. They stood on Geb, who became the earth, and raised up Nut, who became the sky. Ra ruled over all. Geb and Nut later had two sons, Set and Osiris, and two daughters, Isis and Nephthys. Osiris succeeded Ra as king of the earth, helped by Isis, his sister-wife. Set, however, hated his brother and killed him. Isis then embalmed her husband's body with the help of the god Anubis, who thus became the god of embalming. The powerful charms of Isis resurrected Osiris, who became king of the netherworld, the land of the dead. Horus, who was the son of Osiris and Isis, later defeated Set in a great battle and became king of the earth.

Upper Kingdom

At first there was only Nun, the primal ocean of chaos that contained the beginnings of everything to come. From these waters came Ra who, by himself, gave birth to Shu and Tefnut. Shu, the god of air, and Tefnut, the goddess of moisture gave birth to Geb and Nut, the earth god and the sky goddess. And so the physical universe was created. Men were created from Ra's tears. They proved to be ungrateful so Ra, and a council of gods, decided they should be destroyed. Re created Sekhmet to do the job. She was very efficient and slaughtered all but a few humans, when Ra relented and tricked her into stopping. Thus was the present world created. Against Ra's orders, Geb and Nut married. Ra was incensed and ordered Shu to separate them, which he did. But Nut was already pregnant, although unable to give birth as Ra had decreed she could not give birth in any month of any year. Thoth, the god of learning, decided to help her and gambling with the moon for extra light, was able to add five extra days to the 360-day calendar. On those five days Nut gave birth to Osiris, Horus the Elder, Set, Isis, and Nephthys successively. Osiris became the symbol of good, while Set became the symbol of evil. And thus the two poles of morality were fixed once and for all.

Any questions?

Homework from last week, on my desk please. Next lesson we'll be looking at some of these gods in more detail."
