"So, group projects... perhaps not the best idea in hindsight, considering the amount of turnover in the student population of Fandom High."

"Instead, I am going to divide you into two groups ~~with my fancy out-of-a-hat method~~."
Group A: Phoebe, Anders, Izzie, Alanna, Paige
Group B: Bel, Allie, Cally, Sawyer, Pip

"I'd like you each to show your example of a polyamorous culture, but in a context. Group A, present your culture to the class in a positive manner, as an acceptable social institution. Group B, present your culture to the class in a negative manner, and persuade us that the culture is an unacceptable social institution.

Your personal feelings may be different than your presentation, but perhaps playing Devil's Advocate might change some of your ideas on the subject. You'll be graded on the quality of your thoughts and their presentation, not on their content directly."

Anders is here. And casting occasional slightly wistful glances over in the other group's direction.

He's so pathetic.

Paige is also here she smiles as she sits opposite Anders, feeling a little awkward about the subject. "I'm um really not sure how I feel about this," she admitted.

"Yeah, me neither." He laughs uneasily, turning bright red like he tends to do so often in this class. "An acceptable social institution, huh? Me personally, I kind of set my 'acceptable' limit at, um, three and oh my gods I can't believe I just said that out loud."

She smirks, "I'm pretty sure three would count." she says, and people thing she's the wild one!

It's a good thing Anders doesn't realize that he's gone and led Paige to this conclusion, or he'd be dying right about now. "Yeah, I guess it would, huh? Okay, so this is like, um. I've never actually, you know, considered it. So what reasons can we come up with for it to be a good thing?"

"Uhmm..." Phoebe is at a loss as to how to make this sound good and not dirty. "Variations of ideas and conversation is larger in a polyamorous relationship?"

Anders is likewise at a loss in the good-and-not-dirty department. "What if . . . okay, I know this probably sounds really horrible, but what if, like, one person in the relationship can do things for you that the other one can't? Emotionally, I mean, or like, a way that they're good for you that's special. If you're with the right person," he says with a smile, and his glance is straying toward Group B, "they can help make you a better person. If you get the right combination of people, maybe they can all be good for each other that way."

Phoebe also keeps stealing glances at Group B, but for an entirely different reason that Anders is... she thinks.

"Exactly," she said with a nod. "The right group of people are able to share more things with each other and it's possible to have a working relationship in this kind of thing because there are more people to spread the feelings and the emotions around. Each person could compliment a different characteristic of your personality."

"Also I'd guess there's less instances of being cheated on in this kinda relationship," she suggested

Phoebe agreed. "I guess if there was more than one other person in the relationship, then cheating probably wouldn't be an option."

Still, the idea of sharing Cole didn't set well with her.

"In theory," she points out, "you know what some men are like."

((I have to disappear for a few hours shortly))

"Women can be just as bad as men in that respect," she said with some emphasis. "Humans are flawed."

She looked away wincing, "um yeah good point."

((yeah I'm gonna start a post this evening cos Piper needs to talk to her too *fears*))

"In a situation like this polyamory stuff, you have to be just as careful to not hurt each other as there has to be a certain level of trust involved."

[[It won't be *that* bad.]]

"Yeah I guess as long as everyone knows what to expect and where they stand it could work out okay."

"Honesty and trust in the relationship becomes even more important in this kind of an arrangement."

She nodded in agreement, "yeah I guess so, cos trusting two or more people that much is probably harder than just trusting one. Plus like you said there's more chance of jealousy if all partners aren't treated equally."

"Exactly. You have to find a balance between all involved."

Alanna hovered.

Bel signed in and waited for the rest of his group to show up. Having a harem might be nice, but not if he had to share with another guy. Especially Sawyer.

Pip signed in and nodded to Bel. ~~Two guys among three girls? Hardly a harem~~. "So, polyamoury bad."

"Yeah," Cally says. "Erm..." she looks at her notes and winces. "I totally don't have an example."

"Me either," Allie said.

"What about cults?" Bel suggested. "One where the cult leader uses love and sex to control his women followers?"

"Or guy followers," Cally nods, "depending on personal preference and whoever is leading the cult."

"True enough," Bel agreed. "Can we find a specific example to use, or just do a presentation in general?"

"What'shisname. The Russian guy. Who was stabbed, shot, poisoned, beaten, and didn't die until they tossed him into a river."

"Or those guys in Waco...Branch-Davidians or whatever," Bel said.

Grissom's a little bummed today. He totally junked his couch this morning. It was a perfectly good couch, damnit.
