The Danger Shop was set up with a projector and somehow even more popcorn than last week. How? Don't ask silly questions.

"So, we're starting out strong on movies this week," Jane said as the projector was spooling it up. How had they gotten an old fashioned projector to play movies? Reasons. Aesthetic reasons.

Cara seemed suspiciously cheerful. "Today's is based on real events," she said. "Or at least it resembles something that actually happened on the island."

Notice how she didn't specify what those events were.

"That could mean a lot of things," Jane muttered as the movie started up on the screen. "But everyone, enjoy the movie!"

And remember, at no point that you been promised good movies.

"In the beginning," Don told his students, "there was a cow. Actually, in the beginning there was a void," but not Don's void. A different void. "An abyss, really. Ginnungagap, the abyss between Muspelheim, the realm of fire, and Niflheim, the realm of ice. The heat from the fire began to melt the ice, and the water formed Ymir, the first of the giants, who produced more giants from his armpit sweat while he slept. Enter the cow. Where did the cow come from? Doesn't matter. The cow licked at salt in the ice--because there was salt in the ice--and uncovered the first of the Aesir, Buri, frozen in the ice. Once he thawed out, Buri married one of the giants, Bestla, and their descendants, three brothers, Odin, Vili, and Ve, killed Ymir and constructed our world, Midgard, from his corpse. The sky is his skull, the oceans are his blood, and so forth." Fun stuff. "Later, Odin and his brothers made the first humans, Ask and Embla, from a pair of tree trunks." A fact which had led to Don staring at his hands wondering what his body was made of for at least twenty minutes. "But that's another story.

"A lot of cultures' creation myths start with a void. A nothing from which everything springs. The meeting of fire and ice, the importance of water to creation, these are all common motifs. But I do have to admit that I get stuck on where the cow comes from. So. What's your take on this story?"

The book castle from yesterday was still in the library when Belle arrived. There were gremlins inside it and gremlins patrolling the perimeter as well.

There was also a very large box fort which was occupied by a different group of gremlins.

So far the fighting was limited to taunting. It seemed there was some sort of genre war happening. Belle really didn't want to get involved but she was also impressed with both the book castle arms the box fort and wanted to look at them more closely.

When the class opened the doors of the Danger Shop, they were greeted with an idyllic rolling grassland, the air warm with the occasional refreshing breeze scented by the wildflowers growing in profusion by the babbling stream, and even a few goats were wandering or gamboling or whatever goats were wont to do. Nearby a small stand of trees where there were equal parts shade and sunlight to sit in, were a number of colorful blankets, complete with cushions to either sit upon or rest against, and cunning little lap desks to enable people to take notes even while lounging. They formed a large horseshoe and at the open end stood a whiteboard with the same questions they had seen last week, as well as the five pointed star. However, of the five words that had been there previously, there was only one today:

Peace Through Structure )

"But when those systems and structures work, white is unparalleled. It understands the need for both moral and civil laws - moral laws shape how people think and the civil laws control how they act. Together, these two forms of structure create a framework that helps ensure individuals are working for the benefit of the group. There is a reason that the concepts that white values most are the underpinnings of most societies; more than anything else, white wants us to succeed as a group. To set aside selfishness, recklessness, and carelessness, and truly embrace our fellows, to care about each other as we care about ourselves, and to ensure that everyone has a chance to live peacefully, with their needs met - not simply physical, but emotional, spiritual, and mental, as well."

[And now in the right place]
