"It's Spring!" Steve said enthusiastically. "I hope you have taken the opportunity to see the cherry blossoms around Washington, DC in the last week, even if it means fighting with the crowds. I went at dawn on a weekday and enjoyed a beautiful run along the Tidal Basin."

"Dawn," Tony repeated to the class. Because that was when he was woken up. "Which is why today we're doing botanicals."

Enjoy the perfume smell.

"I didn't take the cherry blossoms from the historically significant trees," Steve made sure to note. "But today's class will be celebrating cooking with botanicals: flowers, herbs, and spices."

"Starting with the signature of miniature tea cakes of whatever flavor you'd like so long as it falls within those three categories. The more the better, honestly." Tony, no.

"And then we'll go to a really fun technical--" for given value of fun, "--of a pea and vanilla cake," Steve added. "Because who doesn't like green food?" Most people when looking at desserts, Steve. Most people.

Tony nodded like maybe it'd be just like a carrot cake. Maybe. Possibly.

"And then for the showstopper next week, we're asking for an herbal cake with a sugar flower bouquet." Easy, right?

"But first we need to look at last week's showstoppers," Steve said. "I've been looking forward to them." Because someone loved custard.

Jon waved only a little awkwardly at everyone. "Good afternoon. Today I thought we'd head out and do some more volunteer work. We're heading to a local hospital to help out." He waved at a pile of boxes next to him. "Pick up a box; it's got snacks and puzzle books and a few other moddable things patients might enjoy. We're just going to walk around and greet patients, especially those without guests, and offer them things and chat. It can be a bit lonely being in hospital." Not that he'd know; he tended to only end up there when he was unconscious.

"Oh. And we've got masks," he added. "Because hospitals tend to spread germs and we don't want to get them ourselves or give them to anybody who's already down." He reviewed his mental list. "I hope you wore good shoes. And please listen to the doctors or nurses if they give you any instructions. Right. Let's go."

Hello everyone! Spring has sprung, and that means two things:

1) It's time to break out the allergy medication.
2) It's time again for applications!

To apply, read the following information, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play, and send it off!

The basics you need to know )

* At this point, the school is now officially a collegiate setting. All student applications must be for college students or grad students.

* Teachers are required to teach at least one class/workshop per week, and be accessible to students when needed. This also applies for characters applying to teach an adult class at the Community Center, rather than one at the school.

* If you would like to apply for a new character to teach an adult workshop, fill out the Character Application exactly as if you were applying for a teacher, but mark it "Townie" instead. Note in the Course Description that it would be an adult workshop, not a student workshop. Because of the need to keep track of the adult workshops being offered and start them at the same time, these applications will be processed on the same schedule as student/teacher applications.

* Current townies or teachers can also apply to teach an adult workshop. If you would like to teach an adult workshop with a current character, you can fill out a limited application by following the instructions here.

* See this post for more about character activity.

* All accepted characters go on probation for the first month. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is causing problems, we'll talk to them about it and possibly discuss removal from the game. It's very difficult to get to the removal stage.

* Improvisation. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.

It was just Cutter in front of the class this week since Connor hadn’t been feeling very well, so Cutter was handling the class for them.

“Good morning,” Cutter began that week’s class as he held onto his usual morning cup of coffee, “this week we’re going to be following on from last week’s class and talk about Invertebrate Paleontology,” he explained, “invertebrate paleontology is the scientific study of prehistoric invertebrates by analysing prehistoric invertebrates in the geologic record,”

“When it comes to the fossil record, soft-bodied and minuscule invertebrates—such as hydras, jellies, flatworms, hairworms, nematodes, ribbon worms, rotifers and roundworms are infrequently fossilized. As a result, paleontologies and other fossil hunters must often rely on trace fossils, microfossils or chemofossil residue when scouting for these prehistoric creatures,”

“Hard-bodied and large invertebrates are much more commonly preserved; typically as sizeable macrofossils . These invertebrates are more frequently preserved because their hard parts fossilise more readily—for example, shell, armor, plates, tests, exoskeleton, jaws or teeth. In invertebrates, these parts are composed of silica, calcite or aragonite and chitin, which is a protein often infused with tricalcium phosphate or keratin, which is another complex protein,, rather than the vertebrate bone or cartliage of fishes and land dwelling tetrapods,” he finished.

“For the rest of the class I would like you to work on your moddable worksheets and as always I’m available if there’s any questions you may have,”
