Arden had a serious case of the dun-wannas. She blamed leaving vacationing in Barbados for a wonderful week. So instead of doing anything productive, like keeping an eye on the gremlins, glaring down the bats who flew low enough to graze her hair, or interrogating the books on how they'd ended up with beads, Arden was sitting behind the desk, doing sudoku.

Possibly sulking, just a little.

"Right," Steve said from the front of the tent, "we're not entirely ready to be back from the warmth."

"I miss it," Tony whined. Mostly because Steve cruelly wouldn't let him buy an island there or anything. Which was just a shame. "And that is why, after we judge your Black Forest Cakes, we're going to spend this class with the flavors of Hawaii. Starting out with malasadas. Which are a Portuguese donut that has been fully adopted by Hawaiian as their own. You can make any filling you like, but we encourage tropical flavors like passion fruit and mango."

Steve was so unreasonable with his hard "no more islands" stance. "Green tea would be good, too," he said. "Or coconut! After that we'll get into a mochi cake technical challenge."

"Butter mochi are a bit like if you made blondies with glutinous rice flour for that rich mochi chew," Tony added. "We think you'll all do great with it."

And if they didn't... well. Steve was polite enough to eat it anyway.

"And we'll surprise you with your showstopper assignment after that!" Steve said like that would somehow make it better.

Jon nodded to everyone with a faint smile. He looked tired but not quite as strung out as pre-vacation. He was also very professionally dressed, in a button-up, waistcoat, and pressed trousers.

"We had quite a few chances to better ourselves over the last week," he began, "but that was mostly physical. Today we're going to better ourselves mentally. We're headed to the library."

And if you were wondering why you were in Portalocity, it was because you were going to what a part of Jon's brain would always consider the library. He led them briskly through the portal and onto... "Wait. This isn't the Bodleian." He frowned around at their environs. "Well. Welcome to the Library of Congress, I suppose. It is the largest library in the world," he admitted grudgingly, "so I suppose it will do."

He waved at the room they were in. "Pick a topic and research it. There are a number of research centers, if you like, or you can access their digital collections or simply explore. You're supposed to have a library card, but the ones I got us are for Oxford," he said pointedly in case the gnomes were listening. (They weren't.) "Anyway, pick something that interests you and research it. Read. It's good for your brain. Assuming the books aren't evil."

He didn't think they were here.

No sooner had Cutter and Connor gotten back to Fandom, they had both been asked to head home to help with both the ARC and Prospero so when it was clear on the Tuesday night that they weren’t going to make it back for class Cutter sent out an email to their students.

Class has been cancelled due to an emergency back home.
Enjoy the extra week off
