Gods, Gladio loved doing this class in the spring semester, because there was just something so satisfying about increasingly being able to just take his class outside instead of in the danger shop. And, sure, the danger shop allowed him to take them to some pretty cool vistas and extreme locations, and maybe some of them might be getting a little tired of treading the familiar grounds of the preserve, but he loved it, he didn't think it would ever get old, and since it seemed to be shaping up to be another nice day, they were meeting at the usual spot with the hiking gear all set up and ready to go.

He grinned.

"You guys probably know the drill by now," he said. "Grab some gear, get ready, and we're hiking to the camping spot in the the preserve, and that's where we'll have our lesson. It's going to be about first aid today, but we'll dive into that once we're on location, get a good fire and some shelter set up, and then take it from there. Take a few minutes to stretch," his usually professional demeanor was going to slip a little to send a somewhat classroom-inappropriate grin (good thing they weren't in a classroom, at least?) to one of his students (you know who), "and then let's hit the trail."

Yukari took a moment, leaning on the desk at the front of the classroom, to look at her lesson plan and her vocabulary sheets, and then she looked at her students.

"You know," she said, "I don't really feel like teaching today."

She didn't really feel like teaching any day, but that was beside the point.

"So," she decided, shrugging, "I'm not going to. It's a free period today. Do whatever you want. I know I sure am."

And what she wanted was to sit down, hunch over her phone at her desk, and work on harvesting some crops on her little mobile farming sim game.

Anakin'd had a low-grade bad feeling all week and he woke up today with a blazing headache, a scathingly honest assessment of his hair from his daughter (teenagers were mean) and no interest in being in a room with Ahsoka today.

"Hello," he said, sweeping into the room. "Let's make this quick."

The part where Ahsoka wasn't not living in the woods meant that class was usually her only first interaction of the day with people, which meant beyond her own vague bad feeling, she wasn't quite prepared to reply with "Worried they might figure out we shouldn't be teaching this subject right now?"

"That and I hate talking in front of a Sith," Anakin said, nodding, and then looking absolutely mortified.

"You'd be the voice of experience there. I mostly had to deal with Maul's weird flirting." TMI, Ahsoka, way too much. "And Ventress's."

"No one needs to hear about that," Anakin decided. "Ever."

"Well there's lots of things no one needs to hear," Ahsoka retorted, her teeth making an audible click as she shut her mouth to avoid elaborating on those many things.

No, Anakin all but shouted through the Force at her while keeping his face completely neutral for the class.

"Which is why we're cancelling class," Ahsoka said. "Now."

"Now go before anyone says something they'll regret," Anakin concluded. You, with me, he added to Ahsoka, sweeping out of the room.

No one had ever accused a Skywalker of being low-key.

“And now we’re getting to the fun part,” Atton announced. “Rock and roll.” He was wearing a Ramones shirt for the occasion, yeah. “Like a lot of modern popular music, it was born out of genres of music invented by the Black community in the United States, and then traveled around the world. Most specifically, it had roots in rhythm and blues, a musical movement from the 40s that brought jazz and blues back together in new ways and with new rhythms.”

He shrugged. “Music’s all linear and loops back around on itself, what can I say,” he said. “When rhythms from even more subgenres were pulled in, and the post-World War II era brought a new wave of rebelliousness with it, the music got rowdier. The song ‘Rocket 88’, by the Kings of Rhythm, is generally considered the moment rhythm and blues turned into rock and roll.”

He started the music player. “Other musicians of the time started to iterate on this sound,” he said. “The electric guitar become more and more prominent, driven by artists like Chuck Berry. And yes, much like jazz, solos were a big part of it.” Another snippet of song burst from the speakers.

"It has largely centered around electric guitars," Lana continued. "Often with drums, electric bass guitar, one or more singers, and occasionally other instruments. And it's often been an instrument," ha, "for rebellion and cultures outside of the mainstream. Some of the things they did were apparently quite scandalous. Often due to sexual innuendo, such as the singer Elvis Presley's pelvic thrusts." You got a video to show that one. It was ridiculously tame, but Earth was weird.

"Rock spread around the world, and in the 1960s, some of it came back from elsewhere in the form of what was called the British Invasion - the famous band the Beatles were a large part of this." She pressed play for them. "Also bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and the Who. Also, over the decade they began focusing on entire albums rather than individual songs. Overall, rock became the dominant music genre."

She waved at the instruments. "So, let's listen to some rock and see what we can come up with. And don't worry; everything from horns to flutes to strings has been used in rock music, so it's quite inclusive, no matter what you play."
