"Today we're watching an instructional video," Anakin began like it wasn't going to be a movie day.

"Before anyone questions the plausibility of the subject of this video, I should mention that similar events happened on the island when I was a student here, " Ahsoka added. "If anything they were even stranger."

"It was very, very strange," Anakin agreed, pursing his mouth. "So. Watch the video and then we'll discuss how teamwork that doesn't involve stealing my ship and bombing the weather event from space could help to mitigate this problem."

Because sharks falling from the sky could happen again. Stranger things had happened!

"Did we ever figure out who stole your ship?" Ahsoka asked offhandedly. "They certainly had your landing skills."

"I have my suspicions," Anakin grumbled.

"I have no idea what you're talking about!" A voice that definitely didn't belong to one Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra randomly yelled from outside the classroom. "And I'm great at landings!"

"Tell that to the ship's brakes!" Anakin yelled after her.

"Your shuttle had brakes?" Stop helping, Ahsoka.

Anakin gave her a look. "Sometimes I slow down." Not most of the time, though.

Ahsoka just raised her not-actually-eyebrows at him.

"That's not the point," Anakin decided, pivoting back to the movie. "Let's watch and then discuss."

And hopefully not spend a lot of time on Anakin's flying!
deathsmajesty: Art: Liliana Vess by Irvan Pradivta (Magic - Graveyard Magic)

Liliana looked positively delighted to be in front of the class today and it was with great impatience that she waited for the bell to ring and class to begin. Considering they were meeting in the Danger Shop, currently configured to look like a normal classroom, that may or may not spell good things for the rest of you.

"Zombies!" she said. "We've finally gotten to zombies. As we've discussed previously, necromancers are capable of raising, controlling, and interacting with all kinds of undead, from spirits to skeletons to mummies. Mummies will be getting short shrift, I'm afraid, as apart from their ceremonial wrappings, they're basically either skeletons or zombies and by covering both of the latter, we negate the necessity of discussing the former." Boy was she going to have to revise this class after her trip to Amonkhet. "However, most necromancers have specialties - and my specialty is ghoulcalling. That is, I summon zombies directly from graveyards and have them do my bidding. Or, to put it bluntly, we're on the part of class that I wrote my undergraduate thesis on and have spent nearly the last two hundred years studying."

Welcome to her TED Talk. )

"Additional strategic thoughts: first and foremost, don't let yourself get surrounded and overwhelmed. Zombies are slow, but their strength is in numbers - save when their strength is in strength, but we'll get to different types of zombies next time - and even the strongest and most tireless fighter can't fight off an entire horde by themself. Second, zombies aren't like humans - they don't have morale, they don't get afraid, they don't get tired. They are persistence predators and they will not stop until you or their necromancer is dead. Which is the last bit of advice I have for you - if you cannot outrun the zombies and there are too many to safely fight, your best bet is to go after their controlling necromancer and hope that they were raised quickly and will die with their master. Some necromancers do raise zombies specifically to go feral after their deaths, but that's just a risk you're going to have to take." She smiled at the assembled students.

"Any questions?"

"With the school trip coming up," said Prompto, leaning on the desk in the front of the classroom as usual, "I thought today would be a good day to deviate a little bit from the usual timeline and talk about a few things that I hope will be relevant to you next week, if you're going on the trip, especially since, well, taking a one-year-old into space for her first big vacation seems a little ill-advised, so I actually can't make it this time around. But that's where you guys come in! Because, yes, I'm that teacher who gives an assignment over the break period, but, I mean, it's also an assignment that I would hope you guys were going to do anyway. Just maybe with a little slight tweak.

"So, today, we're going to talk about travel photography, a little of its history, and we'll go over some examples and some helpful tips to follow.

"Then," he chuckled a little, because it sounded like a lot, but it was basically just looking at pictures, it wasn't that bad!, "we're going to talk about these guys." He reached back to pluck a disposable camera up from the desk and show it off. "Disposable cameras! Now, the first one of these showed up here around the year 1949, but it wasn't until about 1986 that they really started to take off, and then really had their heyday in the 1990s. The encroaching popularity and convenience of digital cameras, especially once cell phones started having camera built right in, turned these guys into a bit of a novelty or just a fun little gimmick...I know me and my wife had a bunch at our wedding so that guests could take pictures at the ceremony and reception, and it was a lot of fun to go through them all afterwards. And that's kind of what you'll be doing on the school trip!

"Err," he chuckled again, this time a little sheepish, "if you want. It's your vacation, you do whatever you want, but it'll be really cool to just see what you can shoot, and then when we're back the week after, we'll get a little more practice in developing them and see what you got! They're really easy to use, too, that's kind of the whole point, but we'll save that for after we talk a little about travel photography itself, to hopefully inspire you to really snag some good shots, because I am definitely looking forward to living vicariously through your experiences."

Well. At least he was honest about it, right?

"There are a few principles," Ignis, as usual, wasted no time in getting things started, once everyone arrived at the Danger Shop, where they were set up in front of a large, fairly nondescript fortress that, fittingly enough, seemed to share more in common with an unassuming warehouse than anything else, "I'd like to delve into next, but they'll be in several parts, and so, instead of having the school trip next week break up the retaining of that knowledge, I figured today might be a good day to try and put some of our tactical minds to work by applying them to an actual scenario.

"This," he now gestured to his guest for the day, standing beside him and bouncing a little on his feet as he lifted a hand and waved, "if you don't already know him, is my friend and colleague Prompto Argrentum, who helped me out today with creating a replication of an enemy fortress. Our reconnaissance," the word was emphasized as a way to jog memories regarding last week's topic, "has informed us that our enemies are in the process of developing a secret weapon inside these fortress walls. And it is up to you all to formulate a plan on how to retrieve that weapon from their hands, into ours, where we can either destroy it or perhaps use it to our benefit.

"Normally," he continued, "we would brief you on the information we know that may assist in this extraction. However, since this is a learning experience, I want to know what questions you believe would be important. What information do you feel would be necessary in crafting a plan of attack in this instance? We will have a Q&A session to reveal the facts of the matter, and then you will work together to enact it. Or at the very least attempt to. We will," he nodded to Prompto, who then started to hand out papers, "provide you with a schematic of the base's design and structure as a good jumping off point, and then, it's all entirely in your hands to figure out our next steps."

Class was in the Danger Shop and Cara looked excited. Those were never a good combination. It didn't help that Jane was looking concerned at all, did it?

No, not it didn't.

"So I've been told we're trying out strength rolls?" Jane said, looking over at Cara as the lead on this week's adventure.

"Yes. You're about to be thrown into a highly dangerous situation." Cara turned the Danger Shop and they were in the park, where it was cloudy with a chance of sharks. "Your strength rolls will determine how well you deal with the sharks that are about to literally rain down on you."

That was how strength rolls worked, right?

Jane mouthed a 'I'm so sorry' at the class, but nodded along with this idea. Because it was safely done at least.

"It'll get you prepared for anything that gets thrown at you," she said. "Mostly sharks."

"We've provided weapons for those of you who wish to use them, but punching sharks is also allowed." Advised even.

The library smelled of smoke when Belle arrived.

"What did you do?" she demanded of a very guilty looking gremlin that was hiding in the stacks. It just looked at her wide-eyed and then ran off.

That was when she found the trash can that recently been on fire that still smelled very strongly of burning plastic.

"This is a school there is no reason for this sort of behavior!"

Belle sighed heavily. It was going to be a long day.
