Basic Weaponry; Friday, Third Period [09/29].
Friday, September 29th, 2023 06:59 am"Welcome back, everyone," Amaya greeted the class with her usual nod, as she stood in front of a slightly different training set up today, with the far end of the field lines up with round bulls-eye targets instead of the usual practice dummies. "This is a unit we usually do a bit later in the semester, but since this weekend is Parents Weekend, Detective Diaz wanted to move it up a little and cover it today, so we'll be talking about bows."
"Because there's no better way to drive someone off," Rosa offered helpfully, "then to have a weapon you can shoot at them with without ever even needing to get close to them."
Was your teacher advocating for shooting your friends and family with bows and arrows? It definitely seemed so!
Look, Rosa was a pragmatist, okay?
And Amaya was...well, she appreciated the sentiment, but that's not what she was here for. "Anyway!" she said. "Let's get started, shall we?"
( Shot through the heart. )
"That just about covers the basics," Amaya grinned faintly. "If there's any questions, though, let's have 'em, and then we're going to get to work. First, before we get to the fun part, I'm going to teach you all how to actually string a bow, because a bow's not much good if you've gone and snapped a string or worn it down and can't replace it with a new one. Then it's off to Detective Diaz, where she'll go over nocking, aiming, and shooting at the targets we've got set up over there, and I'm sure, by the end of the class, if you're not an expert already, you will be!
"Or," she added, chuckling faintly, "at the very least, since we're in the Danger Shop, if you're not an expert by the end of class, at least you'll not have lost an eye."
