The Renaissance: Art & Science, Friday, 2nd period
"Since frescos were so much fun last week," Steve said, "this week we decided to give engineering a try."
They were in the Danger Shop and it had been programmed to look like the interior of Florence's Duomo. "This magnificent dome is a miracle of modern engineering of the time, and is still kinda heartstopping to look up into, isn't it?" Steve added.
"It is the largest masonry built dome in the world to this day," Tony added. "It helps that it was also a bit of a mystery as to how the architect, Filippo Brunelleschi, was able to do it as he kept the plans close to his chest, upsetting the others working on it with him."
Steve grinned at him. "Have you figured it out yet?" he asked Tony.
"Luckily I don't have to, they did a analysis on the dome and how the bricks are laid in a very specific pattern to properly distribute the weight without needing any buttresses to hold it up," Tony replied with a grin, bringing up a holographic image for the class to see.
It was very shiny. "We'll play on a slightly less...grandiose...scale," Steve said.
