Gathered once again underneath the tree by the pond in the park, with a pot of tea and a small pile of texts waiting for the students, Shunsui waited for everyone to get settled before venturing forth into another morning of poetry in the park.

"Last week," he started, "we focused on a few of Bashō's miscellaneous poems; this week, we return to his travelogues. Very specifically, his Oku no Hosomichi, or The Narrow Road to the Deep North, as it's often translated as ♥. Published posthumously, it is regarded as one of the major literary works of the Edo era, and some of the poet's most moving work....quite literally," he chuckled faintly, "actually, as it inspired many to follow in Bashō's footsteps on this iconic journey into Kyoto, in the company of Kawai Sora, and inspired by the waka poet Saigyō, being sure to visit all the spots mentioned in Saigyō's own prose ♥. 'Every day,' Bashō posits, 'is a journey, and the journey itself home.'"

With that, Shunsui took a thoughtful sip of his tea and let hat settle a little before he continued.

"Another, far more contemporary writer, Kenji Miyazawa, once claimed that Oku no Hosomichi is 'as if the very soul of Japan had itself written it.' I do not think anyone would be remiss in feeling this claim was not too far off ♥. It is also considered an excellent study in Zen meditation. But...let us not focus on what others have said, when we can form our own opinions ♥."

He smiled over at them, took another sip of tea.

"You know how this goes by now; take some time, flip through the book, share your thoughts and ideas as you do, and we'll go from there. Or just sit and enjoy the lovely morning and contemplate your own poetic, meditative journey and the things it might inspire within you ♥."

Even if all it inspired was the need for a good nap.

"Alright, guys," Prompto grinned from the front of the class room, "we're getting toward the end of this session, so next week's assignment is going to be our last one, I'm pretty sure, so we're going to do something a little different for it. But, before we get to that, we still have last week's photos to go over. Hopefully, you had breakfast before you came in today, because if not? And you've done the assignment right? You will probably come out of this hungry."

He chuckled a little, especially since he was thinking he was already a little hungry just thinking about it.

"Okay, then, let's see what you guys got for us this week, and then onto the next!"

When the class gathered, they would once again find just one instructor at the front of the room. But this time, it was Connor standing there, a stack of papers in his hand as he waited for the time to start class.

“Good morning, class. We have an exciting lecture today that I will be covering while Professor Cutter is finishing up a trip he had to take. Today we will be talking about the Sinornithosaurus . Sinornithosaurus, which is derived from a combination of Latin and Greek, meaning 'Chinese bird-lizard', is a genus of feathered dinosaurs from the early Cretaceous Period. Fossils were first found in the area of the Yixian Formation in what is now China. It is believed that this carnivorous bird-like dino lived around 130-120 million years ago.’

Connor looked around the class and, for a brief moment of pause, wished that Cutter was there to help him finish up the lecture. With a soft sigh, he continued.

“This dinosaur lived in a terrestrial habitat and is believed to have been found in wooded areas and had some gliding abilities. However, it is not believed that Sinornithosaurus could actually fly like a bird. A total of two different species have been found and recognized by paleontologists. Scientists are still studying the fossil remains we do have and are working to understand this creature more. And now,” Connor said as he started handing out the papers to the class, “for the rest of the period, you can work on the Sinornithosaurus handouts I’ve made for us today. If you have any questions feel free to ask.”

Did Beaker need to be wearing a dramatic opera cape for class today? Probably not. But it--and the various wine glasses in front of him--gave the class a clue about what they might be attempting.

...his explanation, all in meeps, probably didn't, but the hand gestures might help you to guess that you would be trying to get glass to crack purely based on sound waves.

And cue the record player with That One Song from Phantom of the Opera Tuneful Lurking Creeper With Issues. Beaker was meeping along, as high as he could get.

Today's class was going to be loud.

Neither teacher was in evidence today, however there was a note.

Class cancelled on account of illness.

Look, being hungover counted as sick.

[Still bleurgh.]
