Connor was a bit distracted as he sat at the front of the class that morning. And it was a good distracted because Rex was visiting the class as was apparently tradition for these classes. So, Connor sat at the desk paying with Rex, getting him to do the few tricks he had been teaching him, and giving him lots of skritches and belly rubs. It was a nice distraction from the trouble his hand was giving him lately, and also a good reason not to have to talk to Cutter, at least for the time being. Once Cutter started the lecture, that might be different.

Cutter looked a little sadly over at Connor playing with Rex, he had been glad that Connor had brought Rex to the class since they were going to be talking about the Coelurosauravus, “welcome back,” Cutter said softly once it was clear that he was being expected to start class this week, “this week we’re going to be talking about the Coelurosauravus and we have Rex here, who comes from the Permian period,” Cutter began, “the Coelurosauravus were found in Madagascar and the only known specimens of the Coelurosauravus to have been found were discovered in 1907 and 1908,” he said and then stopped, hesitating and looking over at Connor for him to continue the lecture.

Connor gave a small nod and a quick glance at Cutter as he started. “Rex here is part of a group of ancient creatures known as Weigeltisauridae or gliding reptiles that lived during the Late Permian, between 259.51 and 251.9 million years ago. All creatures in this family had some form of skin membrane stretched between their limbs. And it is believed that much like the flying squirrel of today, Coelurosauravus could not actually fly but rather would jump from high places and glide great distances.”

And Rex was more than happy to demonstrate that as he had climbed up to the top of the closest bookcase and sat atop, chirping happily before jumping off to glide around the classroom. As he watched Rex having fun circling the classroom, Connor glanced over at Cutter quickly and gave a barely noticeable nod to signal he was done before he turned his attention back to Rex.

Cutter’s shoulders slumped a little at being basically ignored by Connor, he bit his lip, wanting to say something but decided to wait until after class before he talked to Connor, “for the rest of the class, I’d like you to work on your worksheets on the Coelurosauravus. We’re here if you have any questions or want to get to know Rex a little better.”

Gathered once again under the largest tree by the pond in the park, with a pot of tea and a little stack of small, slim books waiting in front of his for the students as they gathered.

"Ohayō, oh lovers of art and beauty ♥," he greeted them with the usual sleepy smile, and a gesture toward the assorted things before him. "Help yourself to some tea, and a book, which is the work we will be discussing today. What you have there is an admittedly hastily translated version of Matuo Bashō's Nozarashi Kikō, or, loosely translated, The Records of a Weather-Exposed Skeleton, or perhaps Travelogue of Weather-Beaten Bones, or even Journal of Bleached Bones in a Field ♥."

He had to smile a little at that; it was hard not to appreciate a good, dramatic translation, but he was a little biased.

"Even the perspectives on the translation of the title could provide for an interesting discussion, but, of course, I'd like to go a bit deeper than that ♥. Nozarashi Kikō is the first published travelogue by our man of the hour, written in the summer of 1864, and where we are first said to get glimpses of the style that he would come to be known for, and just as his rambling through Japan itself, the text rambles until it just turns into a series of poems.

"nozarashi o / kokoro no kazi no / shimu mi kana

Bleached bones
on my mind, the wind pierces
my body to the heart.
"

"One of the first poems to set us off on Bashō"s journey, which certainly sets the stage. Today, I'd like you to feel free to just wander through this journey with Bashō, flipped through the book, share your thoughts as they may filter up, or just enjoy the lovely day, the pleasant company, and the erudite prose, and contemplate the nature of such a travelogue, of blending the mundane encounters with the extraordinary and the inspiring words that may arise from them. And perhaps, in your own travels this next week, you may be inspired to do the same ♥. Any questions about the Nozarashi Kikō to start off? Or shall we just dive in ♥?"

Okay, so, last week, Prompto had discovered that this class had the potential to be the cutest thing ever, considering his roster and what he was able to deduce about his two students based on their adorable interactions when planning out their assignment. After all, he did have a pretty big freakin' soft spot for romance budding under the catalyst of photography!

He was definitely thinking of ways to maybe making the most out of that, but, for now, it was time to get class started, and he sat at the desk at the front of the classroom and clapped his hands to get their attention when it was time to begin.

"Alright, guys," he said. "You've had a week to try and find a good picture of each of the items on the list, and today, we're going to see what you came up with, maybe talk a little bit about the shots and techniques or inspiration, and then we'll move onto this week's challenge. Pretty simple stuff, right? So let's get right into it! Volunteers to go first? Or should we flip a coin?"

Today Beaker was at the front of the lab in his lab coat, glancing suspiciously at a dozen small wastebaskets full of paper.

"Oh it's much improved, Beaky," a voice was saying through the speakerphone. "Fireproof paper! Your documents will never be in peril again!"

Beaker meeped dubiously, then disconnected the call and passed out one basket to each victim student.

"Meep meep meep meep meep mee!" he said, holding up a small flamethower, then pointing to the flamethrowers on each person's station. "Meep meep meep meep mee!"

He ignited his. "Mee, mee, meep!"

And then he tried to light the paper in his wastebasket.

Well.

At least the fire suppression system in this room was incredibly robust? Maybe some of Dr. Bunson's experimental paper didn't catch fire?

But it's Beaker's class, so the probability of you leaving covered in foam are higher than your normal class...

Today, class was in the Dangers Shop, which was set up to look like the beach with an area marked out in a grid with strings.

"So traditionally treasure gets buried, whether by accident or on purpose," Aphra started. "In the first case, you might luck into a map, but with the second, hard work is the name of the game." Please ignore that it was Aphra telling you all this, do as she said, not as she did.

"Now we've done you the favour of narrowing down the area the treasure's been buried in," Isabela added. "But you'll have to do the last part yourselves."

Which would explain the brightly coloured plastic children's shovel sets.
