sake_shinigami: (explaining hand)

"Good morning, ducklings ♥!" Shunsui, of course, was all lazy smiles and comfortable lounging in their little writers circle once more, with tea and a few things scattered about that they'd be talking about for the lesson. "I hope you're all doing well, and that you're ready to start looking at different kinds of writing or the next few weeks ♥. There's certainly no shortage of stories out there, although though there are some who will claim there are only a handful of actual stories out there, just told in different ways, and we may examine that in a future class, especially if you're interested, but today, I'd like to just take us back toward the beginning of recorded history, the beginning of writing, as it were, and discuss some of the first bits of literature that started to bubble up out of humanity. Typically, these stories took the form of epic poetry, as, before then, most stories were shared orally, through spoken word, and the structure of poetry allowed for the storytellers to remember the tales better and keep them consistent through retellings ♥.

"And then writing came around, and those stories could be preserved in other ways, and that is why, even nearly thousands of years later, we still know of the heroic journeys of Gilgamesh and Genji, Beowulf and Odysseus or whatever their meta counterparts may be.

"So," he smiled around the circle, "let us talk a little bit about the epic poem and how it functions as a narrative, its purposes and place in literature and history as a whole, and then we'll do a little brainstorming on creating your own epic poem to start us out ♥. I'll also be asking for you to take your pick of one of these classic examples to read over the next week, and hopefully, it will help spark the inspiration for whatever you'd like to bring to the table next week as your story ♥. Pretty simple, neh ♥? And we shall start here," his hand fell on one of the books before lifting it up, "the Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the oldest known stories of this world's history..."

The danger shop that day was set up to look like a lush green forest, with plenty of little copses of trees and rolling hillocks, dappled sun filtered through the branches, and Sidon was very excited about today's lesson.

Well, he was usually pretty excited about most lessons, but this one in particular, because it was a consistent favorite of his since the first time he taught it.

"Welcome back, everyone!" he greeted the students cheerfully, with an excited opening of his arms and then a pump of his fist. "I have something very exciting for you today! We've spent the last few weeks going over some very important, but admittedly very run-of-the-mill Hylian creatures, but today, we're going to mix it up a bit, and discuss one of the legendary Hylian creatures, the great and mysterious blupee! A small, spiritual creatures that dwell within the forests of Hyrule, the blupee is said to be about the size of a large rabbit, and to move similarly, with bounds and hops and quick leaps and evasive maneuvers. They're said to glow blue, with the body of the aforementioned rabbit, but the face of an owl, and golden wreaths in place of its ears! They are said to be swift, and very easily startled, and very few people have ever actually seen the enigmatic beasts! Some claim that they are mere figments of the imagination, but there are others who say they have not only seen a blupee, but they have discovered that, when one strikes one with an arrow, the blupee, while unharmed, will drop rupees for the archer to collect before disappearing back into the spiritual realm from whence it came!"

As he spoke, of course, there was a flash of blue from somewhere behind him. Sidon turned toward it for a moment, then turned back toward the students with a grin. "Did you see that? I think we may have a few blupees in our midst even now as we speak! Now, surely, not all of us here are excellent marksmen, so perhaps shooting a blupee might be a bit out of our scope right now, but surely, at least someone at some time has certainly tried to catch a blupee in other ways! And if not?"

He laughed, beaming at them all.

"Then we shall be the first!"

Well, them, and the two classes before them where he'd taught this same lesson.

"Remember, though, they are quite skittish, and remarkably fast, so you may need to be quite sneaky and swift or perhaps even clever yourself in order to catch one! Sighting a blupee in the wild is a rare event indeed, so let us make the most out of it! Are there any questions before we begin? If not, let us begin our hunt, and may you find yourself quite victorious! Happy hunting!"
noonedecidesmyfate: (belle - is not amused)

Belle was having one of those days where every time she started to do anything her attention was immediately required elsewhere.

She was doing a lot of things but getting very little done at the same time.

She would be blaming the gremlins if she ever got a chance to.

Anakin was still giving his chrono a dubious, suspicious looks today.

"Right," he said, glancing up when the students arrived. "Yesterday was irritating. But think like spies: how would communications going awry have worked to your advantage? And if you needed to communicate electronically yesterday--say there was an important mission--how would you have approached things to ensure success?"

"After last week, this week should be quite easy," Yennefer stated with the confidence of someone who had no idea what they were talking about.

"This week is about flatbread," Jaskier said with the very same sort of confidence. "Which is mostly just failed bread."

"Mm," Yennefer agreed. "Bread that could not hold a shape, as it were. But still delicious! Today you are going to make naan. The recipe says you don't even have to knead it!"

"Oh, I've had that one before? With garlic and butter!" Jaskier said, glad to know a thing.

"It often accompanies curries and other Indian dishes," Yennefer explained, "but as this is a baking class, we won't make you tackle those." Because that would just be silly. As silly as making British bakers make tacos.

And they definitely wouldn't be doing that!

"So! Let's... make same naan!" So close, guys. So close.
