This week, the class would not be outside in Ren Faire tournament grounds, because this week was the week where Rosa got to pick the location, which meant they were basically in some kind of abandoned warehouse. All the practice dummies were wearing black ninja masks like B-movie criminals because Rosa really did need to lay off the late-night shitty action movie marathons, and there were a few tables with a wide variety of small bladed weapons waiting to be used and explored

"Welcome back, everyone," Amaya greeted the class with a nod. "Now that we're in week two, we can start getting into the good stuff, and start working with actual weapons. Well. Not actual weapons, since we're still in the danger shop, but you know what I mean. And the first weapon we're going to learn about is..."

Amaya had barely trailed off before Rosa yanked one of the weapons out of the wood of the table, threw it past her co-teacher, until it struck firmly in the center of the chest of one of the dummies with a slight wobble at it stuck.

"Daggers," Rosa concluded helpfully.

Daggers! )

"Well," Amaya may have groused slightly, "I do think having a switchblade makes you cool. But that's enough about the history aspects of it. Pretty basic, pretty broad, because a dagger's just one of those weapons that's so logical that it makes its way into just about everything, but if you have any specific questions, I'll be more than happy to go into a little more detail. And if not, I'll be handing you over to Detective Diaz, who will go over with you some of the different ways to use a dagger in combat, and then you'll have the chance to give it a try with the practice dummies yourself."

"Welcome back," Lana told her students. "I thought first I'd talk a bit about who the Jedi are and why we're studying them." Well, apart from the island's oddity. "The Jedi are an order of beings in my galaxy that follow the philosophy we'll be discussing in the use of the Force, which is the life force and being of everything in the universe. If you'd like to know more about their culture specifically, Dean Skywalker is a Jedi master, and would know more about that than I would, but I've lived and worked with a number of Jedi for years, and I hope I'll manage to do them justice.

"When I taught Sith philosophy, we went through the code a line at a time, so I thought we'd start that way with the Jedi code as well. The first line is, 'There is no emotion, there is peace'." In my experience, it means different things to different Jedi, unsurprisingly." Some more healthy than others, but she was trying not to judge. Too much.

"So, as the basis for a code of living, what would that mean to you?" she asked. "And what do you think of it - would it work for you, or not? How would you go about following it?"

The Danger Shop workshop was back this week, with an X-wing somehow fitting into the space. Complete with the little droid in its socket.

"Welcome to an X-wing," Jaina said. "This is an older model, without fancy stealth capabilities, but it's a pretty good intro to this stuff. Starfighters like this are equipped with hyperdrives, navigation, shields, weapons systems, and droids we call astromechs."

The little droid beeped a cheerful hello.

"These little guys are there to help you while you're flying. If you take a hit and need an emergency fix, they'll do what they can to make repairs and get you back to fighting shape as soon as possible. It's possible to fly without them, but it's not nearly as smooth a time," she went on. "Today you're going to try running diagnostics on the ship, and see if you can help this R2 unit by following his instructions."

"Welcome back to Sexier Crimes!" Aphra was remarkably chipper this afternoon. "I hope you all remembered to do your homework because it's time to present it to the rest of the class."

Turns out other people having to do the actual work improved Aphra's mood.

"In case you've forgotten, your assignment was to introduce yourselves by figuring out what role you'd play in a heist," Isabela helpfully reminded them.

After everyone had finished that, Isabela started speaking again "As today's movie will show, sometimes sexy crime is committed for great justice!"

"And sometimes it has a random dude no one is interested in," was Aphra's contribution. "Today's homework will be to figure out how the story would be better without the random guy."
