Intro to Spaceship Maintenance- Tuesday- 4th period

The Danger Shop workshop was back this week, with an X-wing somehow fitting into the space. Complete with the little droid in its socket.

"Welcome to an X-wing," Jaina said. "This is an older model, without fancy stealth capabilities, but it's a pretty good intro to this stuff. Starfighters like this are equipped with hyperdrives, navigation, shields, weapons systems, and droids we call astromechs."

The little droid beeped a cheerful hello.

"These little guys are there to help you while you're flying. If you take a hit and need an emergency fix, they'll do what they can to make repairs and get you back to fighting shape as soon as possible. It's possible to fly without them, but it's not nearly as smooth a time," she went on. "Today you're going to try running diagnostics on the ship, and see if you can help this R2 unit by following his instructions."

Running the diagnostics was easy, once Beta got used to the X-wing's operating system (with some help from her Focus, she wouldn't lie). She'd run diagnostics and studied schematics on so many different kinds of systems that she could probably do it in her sleep by now.

Working with an R2 unit was definitely a new experience, but... Beta found she actually really liked it. It wasn't like being drilled in lessons with a very specific purpose in mind, like with her virtual tutors back on the Odyssey; it didn't have the slightly disconcerting feel of working with GAIA, who couldn't help treating her with some of the familiarity that came with being a clone of GAIA's creator and friend.

It was just a nice, simple working partnership that felt closer to being on equal footing than she'd ever felt working with... well, just about anyone, really.
