"A lot of the things we've been talking about in this class so far," Summer began that morning's class as soon as everyone got good and settled, "have been, for the most part, internal. Either things that happen to ourselves or things that are already here. But a big, consistent theme that pops up every once in a while with life here on Fandom are things from the outside. External threats. Invasions."

“So many invasions,” Stark agreed. “Just not recently. Which is good. Except it might not be. Maybe we’re overdue? Maybe it will be worse next time.” He could be such a comforting presence sometimes.

"And sometimes," Summer added, "they start out innocently enough. Do you guys remember that raccoon guy when we took the portal to the screaming sun planet? That invasion started as a cupcake delivery service. Other times, it's much more obvious, and there's almost always an invasion of some kind at graduation. Mine was giant scorpions!"

“They promised us donuts and then we ended up in a hole. For weeks. I don’t like raccoons,” Stark said darkly. “And I think when I graduated the school exploded? Something exploded. I think. I don’t remember scorpions. I remember zombies, and snow monsters, and do the vampires count as an invasion? And I think there were dinosaurs once. And the people with the guns when we were stuck in the same day for all those days last winter. Do they count as invading? Oh, and the Night Mares. Those were terrible.”

"Needless to say," said Summer, after all that was, in fact, said, "there's been a lot. But the nice thing about Fandom is that, if there's anywhere equipped to deal with scorpions or dinosaurs or talking animals and rabid fans who seem to think this is all some sort of TV show they can just rewrite invading, it's this place. And you don't even have to be a fighter to defend yourself, your friends, and the island. There is almost always an epic fight to close things out, but leading up to it, all the nerds and less fighterly types can do research and investigatory things to figure out what the heck is going on in the first place."

Stark could have kept listing invasions he remembered. It was a good thing Summer was there to steer the class away from that. “So you don’t have to fight. And sometimes you shouldn’t. Sometimes it’s better to stay out of the way of the fighting and help in other ways. Maybe you can find out why. Or offer support. Or borrow your friend’s spaceship so you can blow up a weather satellite but that wasn’t really an invasion, was it, that winter?”

Some aliens were easily sidetracked today, apparently.

"Honestly?" Summer shrugged. "It's hard to really keep track, after a while. What classifies as an invasion? We can discuss it!"

Like a real class not cobbled together last minute because you realized that forcing people to cook things inspired by terrible cupcakes didn't earn them a free trip. This was totally a real class. The teachers hadn't even resorted to one movie day yet!

"We can," Stark agreed. "We can talk about what might make something an invasion or not or what you could do if one happens. When one happens. Or if you have any experience with invasions before you were here. Or…I'm sure there are other things."

"What your best resources are," Summer continued, "what would be the worst invasion? What would be the best? Does Parents Weekend count? The fake kids definitely would…So many things! So let's get to it!""

"An important part of diplomacy, as you may have noticed over the last few weeks, is the ability to control your facial expressions," Anakin said as the students met in front of the Danger Shop. "You must be smarter than you look and be able to make quick decisions while not showing that you're carefully considering your options."

Which was why he was putting you through something today that looked suspiciously like a giant maze for mice. So, um, controlling your facial expressions starts now.

"First person to get through this maze successfully gets a prize," Anakin said.

It was cheese.

Today the Danger Shop looked like your average city that happened to have been stepped on or toppled by something very large.

"You're going to have to be a little unconventional today," Jaina said, like this class had been at all conventional so far. "This place has more or less been trampled. You have access to cars and trucks that have been abandoned. A couple blocks down from here are some abandoned military tanks and other things. You can pop into stores or buildings to find things you can use. What you're fighting today is one thing, and it is very large, and you're going to have to work together to win this one. So I wish you good luck."

At that, there was a roar, at which point somewhere in the distance, Godzilla or the meta version of him, stomped on a bridge.

"So last week you all learned an important lesson about teamwork," Aphra, who did not look hungover today, said by way of greeting. Whether it had been the lesson actually intended was entirely up for debate. "So today it's time for a lesson on being a badass lone wolf."

Which didn't explain why there were in the computer lab. "But because it would be irresponsible or something to just let you go out and do that." Because if there was one thing Isabela was know for, it was being responsible. "So instead you're going to play a game."

An already hard game that Aphra might have sliced to make even harder.
