"Welcome back, everyone," Anakin said, smiling at the class over a table filled with food he'd picked up in France. "Today we're going to work on our poker faces--that is, not reacting negatively despite what we've just been told. It's an essential quality in a diplomat."

And one he utterly failed at, but details. "This is also a good time practice avoiding shooting water or other liquids out your noses."

He grinned. "You'll work in pairs. One of you will be eating or drinking something from this table. The second one will say something--either about the food, or about the world at large--designed to shock the other person. Then you'll switch."

“Did we all enjoy our week off?” Stark asked the students once they were all assembled. “I hope so. I did. I’d never been to France. Or on a cruise. And nothing terrible happened. But now we’re back here. Where probably nothing terrible will happen but you never know. It could. It’s best to be prepared for these things.”

Summer, meanwhile, was giving her co-teacher a very dubious look at that before turning to the students and informing them, simply, "Terrible things happen all the time here. We've actually been fairly lucky this semester, the terribleness seems to be pretty light, which could mean nothing or it could mean it's apping up to something particularly terrible later. But we're actually not going to be focusing on that quite yet, although some people might consider today's topic very terrible, but it's….usually harmless."

As long as you ignore the lingering awkwardness it could sometimes cause. Not that either of the teachers knew anything about that.

"Today," she continued, "we're talking about when this place makes you feel…not quite like yourself. And there are a lot of different ways the island might do that, so we're going to try and cover the more frequent and typical examples of this phenomenon."

“Some of these things you can avoid,” Stark said. “Like the gremlins. Sometimes.” Stark had somehow avoided gremlins for his entire residency here. “Some of them you can’t. Like the weekends you may wake up and be someone else entirely but come back to being yourself again on Monday morning. Or when you might turn into a Halloween costume and start singing opera onstage at the bar.” No, he still wasn’t over that one. “At least this way you’ll be warned about what may be waiting for you.”

"Or you and a bunch of your friends think you're all pop stars and start singing in a concert in the park," Summer snorted faintly. "There also may be times where you're still yourself, but not really. I have been so many different versions of myself at this point that it's hard to keep them all straight anymore. Is there any rhyme or reason to it? No. Are there scientific explanations? Also no. The smartest man I have ever met almost drove himself crazy trying to figure it out. So the best you can really do is be prepared for it and hope it doesn't get too bad and maybe take comfort in the fact that at least you're usually not the only one having to deal with it."

“That is a good thing about this place. It can help,” Stark said. “Everyone here is dealing with the oddness. Even if we aren’t always all dealing with the same oddness at the same time it’s almost never something that only happens to one person ever. You won’t be alone in dealing with it.”

The problem with commuting from Bastion was that sometimes the Danger Shop had a mind of its own and Jaina really wasn't left with enough time to fix it before class.

Which is why today it looked like the lobby of a day spa.

"Welcome back from vacation," she said. "Today I guess we're continuing the theme by fighting... stress? Fatigue? The Danger Shop did a thing, I don't know. Anyway I guess if you want a spa treatment now is the time."

Oh, look, your teachers were actually here! Even if one of them very clearly looked less than enthused.

"Teamwork!" Had they already done a class on teamwork? Isabela didn't care, and Aphra's obvious hangover doubly didn't care. "It makes the dream work! More importantly, a good team at your side significantly reduces the chances of getting got!"

Aphra adjusted her dark goggles that were extremely cool looking thank you. "So to get in the spirit you're going to play a game about teamwork. Quietly."

No, neither of these two had ever actually played the game in question, why did you ask?
