Class was meeting that week in a classroom. Not the classroom sim in the Danger Shop, but an actual classroom, so that was something fun and different, huh? Thankfully, though, they would not be spending much time there.

"Airight, guys," Summer started, "so. Some of you who've been around for a while probably have figured out what's up with this week, but for those of you where are new, we're going to take a break from all that revolution stuff to dip our toes into a little Fandom 101, because sometimes, it's kind of criminal how ill-prepared some of the newbies are for this kind of crap, amd I'm definitely reviving that class in the fall, but that's neither here nor there.

"You see," she continued, leaning against the front of the desk at the front, "every so often, usually in the springtime, but not always, the island seems to release this....stuff in the air, colloquially known as sex pollen...that basically turns up everyone's already probably pretty volitile hormones because a) teenagers and b) this island's Hot Person Quotient is off the fucking charts...to eleven. Seriously, if any of you guys are big nerds and want to know more, my boyfriend has stacks of research into this stuff, because he's a big fucking nerd, too. And you know what? Hey, if you're into that and you've got someone or someones to work it out with, it's actually pretty great. But if you're not currently having the best luck in that field or you're just, you know, reasonable and don't appreciate outside influences having that much power in how you feel, it can really, really suck.

"Which is why," Summer was now clearly coming around to the conclusion, pushing off from the desk and weilding an odd gun sort of thing glowing with pink energy, "we're taking a field trip today. An actual field trip, into space, about as far from Fandom's current tainted air as you can get, to give yourself a little break with some...well, I'm not going to say fresh air, more like...definitely alien sweat and cheap beer air, which, hey, might be worse on the scale of making you horny, I won't judge, but you're basically taking a field trip to a space arcade, that's not half bad. Consider it a shore leave.

"Because of that, though," she added, "try to keep a low profile. Shore leaves are great when you're in the middle of a space revolution, it's important to be able to unwind, but you've got to keep in mind that anyone could be watching, and if you gain too much attention, it can lead to some bigger problems down the road. Am I just cloaking a request for you guys to behave yourself in the space arcade as a shoehorned lesson about not drawing too much attention to yourself during an active revolution? Maybe. Do you want to take that chance?"

She trailed off, giving a shrug as her general answer to that rhetorical question, then turned a dial or two on her portal gun before shooting it at the wall and gesturing the swirling pink portal that it produced.

Could she have just gotten a Portalocity portal for this? Yes. But Portalocity portals didn't look like large, glowing, sparkling and pulsating vaginas like Summer's did, which was obviously way funnier right now.

"It's totally safe, by the way," she assured them, which always helped with convincing something was safe, really. "But if you'd rather take a pass and stay here for the class period, that's totally valid, too."

Jon looked like he hadn't slept in days - probably because he hadn't. At least the pollen hadn't had its expected effect on him, which he was profoundly grateful for. Still, he'd found himself a little more keyed-up and hungry, and was trying very hard to focus.

He hoped the students could, too. "Right. Um. So the movie has...um. Some differences from the story, but a lot of similarities. And a bit of a different focus. Let's watch it and talk about it."

He wrote next week's story on the board before he could forget: "Memento Mori".

Despite many of us experiencing yet another bout of winter weather (or seasonally appropriate winter weather), it's time for summer applications! To apply, read the following information, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play, and send it off!

The basics you need to know )

Popping this outside the cut:

* Teachers are required to teach at least one class/workshop per week, and be accessible to students when needed.

Since folks had fun with this last summer, we're doing it again: instead of having Community Center courses in town in addition to the summer camp workshops, we're going to have ONLY Summer Camp workshops which can be open to both students and adults!

Who can take your workshop will be up to the teacher, but the idea is that we want the teachers and townies to have the chance to participate in some of the fun, silly stuff that's traditionally a part of FH Summer Camp. So you can choose to run a regular students-only workshop, an adults-only workshop, or one that anyone can join, but they should all be designed with summer fun shenanigans in mind, and even the adults-only workshops will have the use of the FH campgrounds and school facilities.

What this means for apps is that we won't be accepting Townie applications to teach workshops this summer - if you want to teach a workshop this summer, apply as a teacher, and indicate on the application whether your workshop is open to adults only, students only, or all. (Regular Townie applications will remain always-open as usual.)

More of the basics! )

Application Form (This is a GDoc whose text you can paste into an e-mail or attach as a txt file, then send to us at fandomhighadmins dot iambicnut dot com.)

You only need to fill out the parts that are relevant to the type of character you are applying for (ie: if you're a student applicant, don't fill in the stuff marked 'Townies Only').

If you don't get a confirmation email from us within 24 hours, please email us!

Applications close April 24th at 11:59pm Eastern. The next application session for students and teachers after this will be for the Fall Session in July!

Got a question? We're here to answer it!
