"Morning," Amaya greeted the ckass with a nod and a grin, clearly eager to get on with today's class, because the unit they were current in was one that would never get old for her. "And welcome back. Today, we're going to get to put those foundries we worked on last week to the test and start to get a real feel for what foundry work is all about."

And that was molten metal! What wasn't to love?

"Today, we'll be making the good old standard metal biscuits, which I don't recommend actually eating, unless hard aluminium is something that's already a part of your normal diet. You can see we've got ourselves a few buckets of old and empty aluminum soda cans here," she gave one such bucket a little kick to make the contents rattle slightly, "which we'll be melting down into our metal. So not only is it pretty neat, but it's also a good way to recycle. Go ahead and grab your foundries from last week and I'll show you how we're doing this, and then you guys can just go at it. And remember, safety first, so please make sure you've got some heat resistant gloves while you're working and some goggles wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

"We've got a little more time, so feel free to melt down some more cans and use a variety of the pans to try something else or try melting down what you've made this first time around and do a second pour with a purer metal. Don't forget to save a little time at the end to empty out the ashes in your forge before you leave as well, and let me know if there's any questions, of course."

This week when the students arrived, they'd find their teacher in better health and poorer spirits than previously.

Jon waved at the board. It had written on it: The Dark: Fear of the dark and things unseen.

"I hope you all read 'The Shadowy Street' for today," he told them. "You may have noticed Ray uses a similar conceit to Poe in our first story: that of finding other stories and merely transmitting them. This one is structured as two tales in one, and the overlap isn't clear until towards the end. So, why do you think he's done that? Do you think it's effective in conveying the horror? Which section do you think best imparts that visceral fear of the dark and the unseen?"

He waved a hand dismissively. "Or should we just have given up and watched Pitch Black? Discuss."

At the end of class, he wrote their assignment on the board. "For next week, please read 'Fire Watch' by Connie Willis."

"Good morning, everyone," Anakin said, sweeping into the room right on time. "Today we're going to talk about cheating. Is there, say, a difference between cheating on a test and lying about your age in order to get cheaper movie tickets? How so? Would you do either? Both?"

Welcome back to the Danger Shop apartment! Today you were crowding into a bathroom. Yes, all at once.

"Clogged drains!" Nick announced. "One day you're fine, the next day you've got water up to your ankles because your roommate has long hair and the drain can only take so much. So let me introduce you to your new best friend: Drano!"

He said, while brandishing a bottle.

"Plumbers hate this stuff. They just say that because they want you to spend money on them. I'm on to their tricks. But sometimes you pour this down the drain enough and it still doesn't work, so that's when you have to get the snake."

And with that, he pulled out a clean snake. "You're all gonna stick this down the drain, really get it in there, and then pull up all the gunk that's down there till you have a clear drain and can go back to the good old Drano."
