spin_kick_snap: Kang Min Kyung as Kathy/Banzai (Talking)

"So," Kathy said, when everyone had assembled for class. Today, she was leaning against the desk, still trying to look teacherly in a pencil skirt and button-up blouse. "We're talking about the most important aspect of sex - and, honestly, of human interaction: consent. Consent, while it most frequently talked about in regards to sex, is applicable to your every day life. At it's most basic, consent is permission and when it comes to people, it's the permission to involve you in whatever activities are happening. Borrowing clothes, drinking alcohol, giving hugs, and, yes, having sex. Do do something with someone without their consent is a violation - both of themselves and sometimes the law. Today we're going to talk about different kinds of consent and, most particularly, the kinds of consent based around sex."

The class was meeting in the classroom again, where another glowing portal was waiting to whisk them away to another place and dimension, but first? A little preamble.

"Hey, guys," Summer greeted them with a grin, "welcome back. So last week was great because I really got an idea of where you all are in portal travel, which seems like we've got a pretty open-ended book right now, which is great, there's a lot of different places we can go with this, lit-er-ral-lee, and I thought, maybe, what we could do for this class was take it just a small step further, into one of those dimensions that are pretty much exactly like the one we have here, except that they, like, call Starbucks something different or no one has ever heard of Taylor Swift before--I know, right? But the subtle ones are just that...subtle. They throw you off enough to kind of mess you up a little and make you feel weird, but that's about it, it's fairly easy to get used to. So we need to go a little bigger, and that's maybe one of the dimensions where there's a really big flip of the script, where one thing is noticably different than this dimension, and that's why I've decided this week, we're going to the Dog Dimension.

"Quick briefing: the Dog Dimension is basically a dimension where dogs evolved like humans, and humans involved like dogs, so dogs are the dominant species and humans are basically pets. Which can be a little off-putting, but also, it's kind of important? As, like, a reminder that humans aren't shit everywhere, you know? We could probably stand to be taken down a few notches in some dimensions, there's even dimensions where people are, like, furniture and phones, and I almost considered going there but I thought you guys would appreciate not having sentient armchairs trying to sit on you."

Yes, that was an actual sentence that came out of her mouth.

"The biggest threat we might face in the Dog Dimension, other than the giant birds," yes, that was randomly thing in Dog Dimension, don't ask, "is someone trying to adopt you, probably, or take you home, so keep that in mind. Luckily, the current emperor of the Dog Dimension is actually our old family pet, Snuffles, so I've got an in. Things got a little rough between us when my grampa gave him sentience in our dimension and then he tried to take over the Earth, but, you know, that's when we sent him off to Dog Dimension, and honestly? It is working so much better for him now. So, let's everyone get ready, hop on through the portal, we'll meet some dogs and you can ask questions and experience a world where dogs are humans and humans are dogs!"

The class was meeting in the actual classroom today, which wouldn't be happening too much this semester. And yes this should have gone up last week but it's been a bad time and the player's brain is dying so everyone's gonna have to deal.

"Morning, and welcome to Adulting 101," Kitty greeted them. "I'm Kitty Pryde-Barton, I don't care what you call me, whatever's fine. So this is a class I run every once in a while, because if you're planning to get out in the real world at all after school, it can be kind of a shock. Especially when you've been here, because there are a lot of great things about this place but it's also kind of sheltering. I went from a boarding school, to living somewhere where people older than me took care of all the boring stuff, and then I decided to get out on my own and suddenly there were bills and oh yeah I needed a job if I wanted to eat food. Hopefully we'll be able to at least introduce you to all that stuff so if you get out there, you'll be prepared.

"Today I want to know who you are and where you're from, and if there's anything in particular you think you need to know. I have some flex room in my syllabus, take advantage of that now."

Today when the students arrived, they'd find Ghanima sitting on her desk, and in the center of the room was a pile of small red books, one for each student to take and keep.

"Good morning," Ghanima said once the majority of the class seemed to be settled. "Welcome back, I'm glad to see I did not frighten any of you off. Today we are starting with the first chapter, 'Laying Plans.'"

"War." Ghanima surveyed them sharply, making sure she had everyone's full attention. "The term calls to mind battlefields and generals. The most successful battles, however, are not fought with soldiers, but behind closed doors with words. They are the battles you never hear about, because there is no glory to them."

"There is the war of the sexes, the war between companies and corporations, economic wars, ideological wars, political wars, and wars between the social classes, all of which tend to start on a more basic level, and escalate to the stereotype. Whether you are wooing a romantic partner or a business rival, or meeting an enemy with your weapon drawn, the same principals hold true."

"The Art of War." Picking up a well-loved, clearly personal copy of the red book from her desk, Ghanima flipped it open to her marked page and began reading. "The art of war, then, is governed by five constant factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining int he field. These are: One - The Moral Law. Two - Heaven. Three - Earth. Four - The Commander. Five - Method and Discipline." She snapped the book shut and placed it beside her.

"The Moral Law," she announced, hopping off her desk, "causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger."

"Heaven and Earth are metaphors for the conditions you face, which is slightly more applicable to physical confrontations. However, if you view each type of terrain as a mental condition, you will have a large advantage over your opponent," Ghanima said briskly as she walked through the rows, hands gesturing as she spoke. "Heaven signifies night and day, cold and heat, times and seasons, whereas Earth comprises distances, great and small; danger and security; open ground and narrow passes; the chances of life and death."

"The Commander stands for the virtues of wisdom, sincerely, benevolence, courage and strictness."

"By method and discipline, it is to be understood that it means the marshaling of the army in its proper subdivisions, the graduations of rank among the officers, the maintenance of roads by which supplies may reach the army, and the control of military expenditure."

"These five heads should be familiar to every general," she recited, eyes glowing bright for a moment. "He who knows them will be victorious; he who knows them not will fail."

"Now, when you take these five factors, you must decide how to apply them. Luckily for us, Sun Tzu provided seven ways you can weigh them before making your decision."

"First, which of the two sovereigns is imbued with the Moral law? Who has the army and the populace behind them? Because without the support of your people, you cannot win." Ghanima turned to face all of them as she leaned against a wall. "I cannot stress that point enough. Even if it is simply your friends, or the other members of your company, you will win nothing without the support of your 'troops', if you will."

"The others are more basic; which of the two generals has most ability? With whom lie the advantages derived from Heaven and Earth? On which side is discipline most rigorously enforced? Which army is stronger? On which side are officers and men more highly trained? In which army is there the greater constancy both in reward and punishment?

"Now, I'd like you to pair up, and discuss which of the five constant factors you feel to be the most important, and why."
