When Nanao Ise had come into Summer Smith's office last weekend and called her the 'new Jane Porter,' she had no idea that she was being so...prophetic. Because somewhere between doing radio and getting to the school, the gremlins weren't quite done with Summer, which resulted in her bustling into the classroom in an eager flurry and with a very British accent.

"Welcome back, class!" she said. "I would just like to say that you all did a marvelous job last week with our exploration of primate communication; truly, I have never seen such excellent grunting! You did very well, you would make wonderful Papio anubis, even if it's not exactly the way of us Homo sapiens!" Here, she couldn't help laughing at her little joke there. "Today will be less grunting...or at least I should hope!...as we talk first and foremost about the classification and taxonomy of Primates."

Best to get comfortable now, children. There was a long ride ahead of you.

"So who would like to go first?"

Assuming any of them were still awake.

"Good news," Booker said as the students assembled at the foot of the causeway today. "I finally figured out how to book portals, so we're going on a field trip!" Don't worry, he'd made sure it was to a reality without a plague. "We will be visiting the Musee d'Orsay. Only slightly less famous than the Louvre, the museum is housed in a former railway station and contains mostly French art. So it's perfect for us. Please enjoy the museum, and I'm giving you homework. I want everyone to write a short essay on their favorite piece they see today. Now let's hurry along, we haven't got all day."

"Sometimes there are words that express an emotion so perfectly that you're kind of angry your language didn't come up with it, too," Anakin said. "Today we're going to talk about one of those words: schadenfreude. It's a German word that means taking pleasure in the misfortune of others and I know we've all experienced it."

He smirked slightly. "It comes up frequently around here during gremlin bites, since gremlins are basically schadenfreude given form."

He leaned back against his desk. "So, from an ethical standpoint, why do you think our initial reaction to other people having bad luck is to have a bit of a laugh about it? Does it matter if you already dislike the person? Is this related to why watching people get hit in the privates with a baseball bat is always hilarious?"

Zoe probably had far more food than was necessary for this meeting, but a little extra pizza never hurt anyone. There was also soda, water in case anyone preferred being healthy, and cookies because why not?

"Thank you all for volunteering to help with the Student Council this year," she said once the girls had gotten settled. "I want to make sure we have a chat about Homecoming before it sneaks up on us after fall break, and talk about anything else you might want to do this year."

Ideas about going to the moon might not get shot down immediately, at least?
