"Welcome back, everyone," Amaya grinned, nodding at the students as they got to the shop, because it was time for one of her favorite lessons of the semester.

Well, she did sort of say that about most of the lessons, but that was beside the point.

"We've spent a couple of weeks getting familiar with some of the equipment we'll be using in this class, and now it's time we take a step back from learning about equipment to making some of our own!"

That's right, it was mini-foundry day!

"This is a project that'll cover a handful of weeks, with a pause in the middle for next week, but I'm getitng ahead of my self. We'll be making our own mini-forges today that'll help us in future projects that'll require us to melt down some metal." Which would, of course, be the best projects of all.

Because who doesn't want a little mini furnace that can melt your face off? )

"And that's pretty much it! Good work today! If you'd like, I've got some metal spray paint in a few different colors if you want to give your buckets a little personal touch before you leave; we can leave them to dry so they're good and ready the next time we get the chance to use them. Any questions before we go?"

"Welcome back," Seivarden said, standing in front of the class. "Today we're going to watch an entertainment, which is what is called a movie on Earth. This one is quite popular, a historical drama, and I'm showing it to you to give you an idea of civilized behaviour."

It had taken her a while to choose. Some students would likely be too excited about something romantic, while others would be too happy with anything with lots of space battles. Since Radchaai politics bothered a lot of people here she had avoided historical dramas involving a lot of that.

She had settled on one where a spaceship goes mad when its beloved Captain dies, even if it had some space battles.

"This one is set before the Lord of the Radch came to power, so I just want to point out that spaceships aren't this unreliable these days."

She pressed play.

The plot went like this:

And in all of this there was a lot of drinking tea, some polite conversation and some polite but insulting conversation, and. Everyone used female pronouns and should anyone care, it was difficult to tell the biological sex of a lot of the characters.

"There's tea, of course," Seivarden said, gesturing at the tea set.

Today, the teachers were wearing sweatpants. And possibly their slippers. Not because they had realized they had to teach when they didn't have time left to get dressed, no, definitely not that. It was for demonstration purposes! They swore.

"Today we start our unit on comfort," Vanessa said, like this was the kind of class that had units or, like, a plan.

They'd never known a plan that wasn't pure improvisation. Ever.

"We brought one Snuggie and you all get to fight for our entertainment to see who gets it," Wade said. Because that was the most comfortable thing to wear while binging bad TV.

"If you don't get the Snuggie, I recommend sweatpants. Or pajama pants," Vanessa said. "Basically anything in a knit with an elastic waistband, or no waistband at all. Because comfort is key. Now have at it." She tossed a Snuggie with a note pinned to it reading, To the comfiest, into the middle of the classroom.

"Now fight!" Did they need to play the Mortal Kombat theme song? No, but they were gonna.
