betterthanaplan: (sex-swap -- perturbed)

The class met in the state room today instead of out on the deck, with chairs for all arranged around the large central table. There was a set of Jack's name-and-pronouns stickers on the table for anyone who wanted to fill one of those out, too.

"Right," Duke greeted from his own seat. He was dressed simply today, in jeans, a tank top, and a flannel, having not really felt up with trying to find a more piratical outfit in his new, more lady-like proportions. His name tag said Captain Duke and Him. Mostly. "So I figured some of you all wouldn't be up for a lot of running around this week, but it looks like the island decided to get pretty much everything in on the action. So today we're going to chill a little, and talk about treasure maps.

"So the theory is, that way back in the golden age of piracy, pirate captains would stash their ill-begotten goods on deserted islands, buried usually, and make elaborate coded maps that led to the treasure's location. This — pretty much never actually happened." Said the man who had an as-of-yet unknown hidden treasure stashed on his own damn ship. "But it's fun to imagine anyway. I've got some examples here if you want to take a look, and lots of paper for you to try to make your own. So that's what we're doing today. What's your treasure? Where's it hidden? What are the names of the landmarks along the way? All up to you. Draw up a map using Fandom as your base, make it as confusing to follow as possible, and then find someone to swap maps with and see if they can figure it out.

"Or, you know, chill out and oogle each other's new bits. You do you. In whatever shape you're currently occupying."

"So on this planet there was this guy who wrote a bunch of plays of dubious historical accuracy," Aphra said. "This was because of a bunch of reasons, politics, different definitions of academic rigour, storytelling, and then a couple of hundred years later, they made a dubiously accurate story about him."

"It's like recursive dubious history!"

Elisabeth was just going to kind of...creep into the library today, trying to draw as little notice as possible. This was harder than it sounded - not only was her balance all off, but she'd gained an extra half-foot in height (because six feet tall wasn't enough?!?) and that made everything just a wee bit more ungainly than usual.

She managed to make it to the circulation desk with only a few mishaps - though her legs and hips were going to be forever bruised from all the things she bumped into - and sat down to try to come up with a task that would require the least amount of movement.

Only to see that the books had plans of their own. Your Changing Body and You was the first book up on the desk, quickly followed by You're A Young Man Now, Help! I Look Different!, and several other books that discussed the onset of puberty for boys.

Elisabeth was pretty humiliated at the topics - but was still going to read them because she had so many questions.

Anakin had been sulking at home for the early part of the week and was only cheered up by waking next to a decidedly dude-llike Rory today. He was, however, going to press on with the day like he wasn't six inches shorter than usual because his hair was still fabulous, and only looking slightly concerned at the blank space in the class where Nina normally was. (Force sensitivity was very handy for days like this--luminous beings were they, after all. Not this crude matter.)

"Right, so it's been an interesting week," he said dryly. "We're not going to talk about it because I can't think of a worse thing to have a group discussion over. Instead we're going to talk about cheating, and if you'd do it if got you something you wanted and you weren't going to get caught. And then if you'd cheat if it got you something you wanted and you'd maybe get caught. And then if you'd definitely get caught."

He could already guess about what some of the reactions would be.

"Here's the scenario: you've been struggling in a class this semester--pretend, in this scenario, you were taking more standard classes--and you get to an answer on a test that you can't solve. The test is worth half of your grade. You can see how the smartest kid in the class has solved it and no one is watching you. Do you write down their answer? Do you take the failing grade instead? Are the stakes too low if you are cheating just for a good grade, and if so, what would you cheat for instead?"

The Danger Shop was set up like a movie theater again today, but with gourmet popcorn and fancy snacks and sparkling mineral water; Kennedy was sitting on the back of one of the front row chairs as students arrived.

"Looks like Fandom's having one of those weeks again, huh?" she asked, all genuine sympathy. And not at all sorry that it missed her, because in her household, suddenly turning into a guy had . . . not-so-great connotations attached to it. "I was going to run you all through a pretty cool scenario today, but it seems kind of unfair to do that when a bunch of you probably aren't all that used to your current bodies. So . . . guess it's going to be another movie day, if you want to stick around."

She paused and flashed them all a quick smile. "'course, if you're not so much with the manageable comfort level today, you're free to leave, okay?"

With that she turned the lights down and started the movie, which she'd decided to keep on the light and fun side just to be safe.
