"Morning, everyone," Amaya nodded to the class, offering a small smile. "Hope you all had a good vacation. I figured we'd have a bit of an easier day to help you get back into the swing of things, and something a little thematic with the trip, to boot. I'm not much of potter myself, but I noticed we do have a few of these potter's wheels in here, and pottery and ceramics were clearly a popular art in Greece, so why not try our hand at it this week?

Pottery! )

"Any questions? Don't worry about making mistakes. With clay, it's hard to really see how it goes by just watching, so try to figure out what you do wrong and how to correct it, or ask for help if you need any. Now go get some clay! And probably some smocks, especially if you like your clothes. Odds are, this might get a little messy before you get the hang of it."

She wasn't looking at anyone in particular, no, why would you say that??

Yesterday's sore throat had turned into today's list of DayQuil symptoms, so early this morning the students would be getting an email.

No class today, but coming off vacation you probably didn't want to go anyway. Back next week!

Ugh.

It was neither Saturday nor Tuesday, so Carter was pleased to see that both him and Fjord were present today. Turning from where he was busy setting out a selection of iced shortbread cookies, Carter smiled at the class. “How was your vacation?”

Not the most complex start to a class but it was the first day back after holidays. The students probably didn’t mind.

"Eventful? Unexpected? Glad to be back?" Fjord was actually in pretty good spirits, today. Athens had been good for him, just familiar enough to make him feel not entirely out of place, just different enough to feel like a vacation. "Was there anything in particular you enjoyed about it? Anything you didn't care for?"

“What did you see and do? Did you buy anything for yourself that you feel like sharing?” Carter laughed. “There’s a great number of questions we could ask about how your vacations went—are there any that you would ask us?”

Yes, today was a talk about vacation day. Definitely.

"Part of the whole 'friends and influence,'" Fjord was never leaving off the 'influence' part, sorry Carter, "thing is being open to conversation, understanding that there's some give and take, and since I'm certain the break brought something a little different for each of you, this is as good a topic as any." He spread his hands and smiled crookedly. "So, let's half a conversation. Tell us about your break."

[Plz to be waiting for the OCD is up, up, and away!]

"Hey, kids!" Vanessa said at the beginning of today's class. "Today we're going to talk about pregnancy, and how it sucks and is definitely something you should only do if you're an adult who's one hundred percent sure you want a kid! Did we cover that already? If we did, we're covering it some more, because it's super important!"

"Also, the pregnancy bellies we ordered finally came in while we were stuck in Greece," Wade added, already trying one on. Because that seemed like the thing to do.

"Also that!" Vanessa agreed. "Really excited to be back in the land of the internet and indoor plumbing! But for now, everybody grab a pregnancy belly and strap it on, and experience a little of what a woman experiences when she is nine months pregnant. Like, the weight, yes, but without the bonus of all your organs being displaced or a kid kicking you in the ribs while parked on your bladder." She wasn't going to even talk about the hemorrhoids because as someone who might possibly be pregnant at some point, she tried not to think about the hemorrhoids.

Wade would totally buy her one of those nice pillows for it at least. Which was nice.

"And the heartburn! Linda, from my mommy group on Facebook--" Don't question why he had a mommy group. "--said it's the worst thing ever. Maybe we should have bought the kids some Thai food for that."

"Plus if you're really lucky your boobs might be leaking milk already," Vanessa added, because, fun! "And, oh, what else am I forgetting? Does everyone have their belly on yet?"

"I already have to pee," Wade declared proudly.

"It's working! So what does everybody think of this experience? Fun, right? Definitely not something you want to do again any time soon?"

"Oh! Oh! Homework!" Yes, that was a thing they never did. "Wear it for the rest of the day or longer and then get back to use next week."

"If you wear it all week, you get, I don't know, extra credit? Let's go with that. You get extra credit."

They were awesome teachers.

Tip had missed the Greece trip over break, since she and J.Lo had chosen to head to New Boovworld for a big stickyfish tournament instead. Now that she was back and the gloom of fall was in full-force, weatherwise, she was starting to regret it.

"I don't know," she said to Bill. "I can't decide if I should go full fall and bust out the ghost stories, or if I want to find a bunch of books on the tropics and pretend cold weather doesn't exist."

Bill suggested going out for a pumpkin spice latte. Tip sighed.

"How did you even get addicted to those? You don't drink coffee! Or -- anything else, for that matter."

Bill let out a stream of irritated bubbles.

"I don't think refilling your bubble liquid really counts as drinking."

And that was how Tip ended up spending her day getting the silent treatment from her pet sentient billboard.
