intraspective: (thoughtful)

"Yo, Rookies," Reno drawled, once again leaning back against the desk. "This week, we're gonna cover an important part of infiltration an' sabotage. Gatherin' intel."

He held up a little remote, and a projector clicked on, showing a photo of a very particular fish on the wall of the classroom.

"This is our target, Billy the Bass, as he appeared six days ago in the park," he shared. "Distinguishing features: Loud, flies, pukes sparkles or some shit. Target has been known to change, sometimes to an extreme degree, on a weekly basis. Expect it to be unpredictable."

"And indestructible," Ino said, though she was ostensibly not paying attention to the projector at all and was, instead, filing her nails. "Definitely indestructible."

Zack really had had a brilliant idea with that.

"I'm assuming you lot can guess where this is going."

Reno gave his hands a clap, smirking lazily at the room.

"You all got a chance to win that little monster tomorrow, fair and square," he stated. "Otherwise your mission is gonna be to get your hands on it. Install a mod. Bring it to class next week. You can make this a group assignment - brings your odds up tomorrow at the summer games - or take it solo, meanin' you all got competition to get it. But one way or another, we wanna see that fish in this room this time next week."

Seriously. Just bribe whoever won the thing with a twenty to swing by the classroom. Still counted.

It totally counted. Bribery was A+ acceptable. Given how few people actually wanted the fish by now, Ino figured even just the offer to take it off someone's hands had a good chance of working.

"Your job today is to brainstorm how you're going to get your hands on it," Ino said mildly. "If you lot are up for that."

It was hard to tell, with this class.

"So get to it."

Class was once more on the beach this week. Because it was still summer and they needed to enjoy that while it lasted.

Also because the beach was super easy.

"Glad to see we're all back to normal after the weekend," Tony said with a sigh.

"Yeah, that was just weird," Steve said. "I kept finding goggles everywhere. Today we're going to do something fun, but a sport that also tests your balance and the strength of your arm and leg muscles."

"Don't be too upset if you faceplant in the water," Tony added. "Happens to the best of us."

Meaning it happened to Tony a lot.

Steve smothered a grin behind his hand. "We're learning to water ski, kids, but first, a PSA about the importance of water safety."

Sigh.

"Life jackets are available," Tony said, feeling way better about things with that PSA.

"Life jackets are mandatory," Steve added in a no-nonsense voice.

The Danger Shop was set up to look like the inside of a spaceship. A very small, very cramped space ship.

"So the thing about fieldwork, is that you end up spending a lot of time all up in people's business, while you're working and during your downtime," Aphra said, from her position in the only comfortable chair on the ship. "And even if you're lucky and actually like all...most...some of your co-workers, you're still gonna need a little me time. So your job today is to figure out somewhere on this rust-bucket you can have a little privacy for those time you really want to kill the nerfherder who drank the last of the caf."
