Phys Ed, Part II, Tuesday, August 7, 2018

Class was once more on the beach this week. Because it was still summer and they needed to enjoy that while it lasted.

Also because the beach was super easy.

"Glad to see we're all back to normal after the weekend," Tony said with a sigh.

"Yeah, that was just weird," Steve said. "I kept finding goggles everywhere. Today we're going to do something fun, but a sport that also tests your balance and the strength of your arm and leg muscles."

"Don't be too upset if you faceplant in the water," Tony added. "Happens to the best of us."

Meaning it happened to Tony a lot.

Steve smothered a grin behind his hand. "We're learning to water ski, kids, but first, a PSA about the importance of water safety."

Sigh.

"Life jackets are available," Tony said, feeling way better about things with that PSA.

"Life jackets are mandatory," Steve added in a no-nonsense voice.

It was important! And actually a little educational for Astrid this week, because, while she'd practically grown up surrounded by oceans and rivers, pools and canals, she would guess that the concept of putting words like "water" and "safety" together was completely foreign to her mother. Considering how many of the safety tips she could recall explicitly being broken on various occasions, it was really kind of a miracle she was still alive at all.

Wow. Okay. So this was a lot harder than it looked. But Astrid wasn't going to let the difficulty and a half a dozen gloriously failed attempts stop her from trying...

...not out of any sense of pride or desire for accomplishment or anything, though. Merely because...what else was she going to do?
