Today the class was in the Danger Shop, where Kitty had emailed them to dress in swim clothes, or at least clothes they wouldn't mind getting wet. And when they arrived, they'd find themselves at a quiet little river, where a bunch of inner tubes were set up on the side.

"We're having a lazy day today," Kitty greeted them. "You get in an inner tube, you float in the water. There are snacks and drinks that you can have there, too. That's it! That's the whole class. Have fun."

Class had been handwavily informed to meet on the lawn today, and they met a smiling Bob with a large cardboard box filled with what looked like plush bats.

"Today is one of my favorites," Bob confided to them. "Everybody take one of these. They've been enchanted - each time you hit someone with one, they will suffer a magical effect - they may turn a color, or begin to float, or start speaking backward. Or they might speed up, or develop x-ray vision. Each will last for a few minutes."

He beamed. "Have at each other!"

Two things about today: there was no Anakin, and there was going to be a portal involved today.

"Professor Skywalker's not here today, so I guess we're getting a field trip today to the Air and Space Museum. You've got the run of the place so feel free to look around, check things out, and come up with a bunch of questions to pester him with next week. And don't think you can get away with anything because he's not here. I don't know any of you well enough to get into trouble for any of you."

In case it needed to be said.

Library, Monday

There was a ghost in the stacks.

Not the usual Norman kind, either, since Tip could actually hear this one, making little breathy "wooooooooOOOOOOOOOooooooo!" moans as it rifled through pages of books. Tip tried to ignore it at first, since she didn't want the ghost deciding it could bug her whenever it wanted to, but it was so quiet in the library otherwise that she couldn't help but focus in on the intermittent wailing, tensing whenever it fell quiet as she waited for it to start up again.

When she finally couldn't take it anymore, she stormed into the stacks, armed with nothing but a protective pet robot and the mighty library-aid shush -- only to find circle of ghost story books hovering in midair, glowing faintly and "woooOOOO"ing at each other. They took no notice of her, but following the ectoplasmic emanations, Tip eventually found a tiny bubbling cauldron one aisle over, manned by a coven of witchcraft manuals.

"It's July," she informed them. "Can't you all at least wait until this kind of stuff is thematic?"

One of the books, a guide to curses, threw a little tiny packet at her. It hit Tip in the stomach and let out a little puff of glowing green powder that smelled, oddly enough, like watermelon.

Tip sighed, rolled her eyes, then gave the books her very best shush before heading back to the circulation desk.

She was not paid enough for this.
