magnusrushesin: (get that spider away from me)

Well, class was still on despite the allergies and 'excessive energy' going around.

Because the teachers weren't quitters. Also because they had nothing better to do. Unfortunately.

"So, this is weird," Magnus said. "And I think I liked the snow better?"

Cara answered him with a sneeze. That probably meant yes.

He offered her a tissue. "Soooo, let's work off some energy with fighting! We brought in some weapons. A lot of weapons. A shit ton of weapons."

Cara scowled, but took the tissue anyway. "Mostly staves, because sometimes you just need to beat somebody off."

"Oh my Pan! I figured out where this should take place!" Magnus said, rushing over to the control panel in order to make it look just like the jack-off tunnel in Wave Echo Cave. Complete with jelly monsters and fungi that shoot poison in the air when people talked above a whisper. "Perfect!"

A nearby mushroom spurted spores into the air.

"I'll take that constitution saving throw," he whispered amicably.

Cara was silent for several moments. Long, judgemental moments. Then she sneezed. Again. Loudly.

A mushroom by her spurted. Because noise.

"Go ahead and get started," Magnus whispered, just handing her the box of tissues.

Cara would be having a serious conversation with Magnus later about his kinks. "So get your hands on some wood. Quietly."

Yeah, so, with all the gunk in the air right now, there was no way in hell Sparkle wasn't taking students off the goddamn island today to get some fresh air and perspective, thanks. He'd handwavily directed students to meet on the causeway, and to dress appropriately for hanging around with small children. Next week could be the shelter talk. This week, apparently, was just straight-up the shelter.

"Field trip day," he announced, "and I hope you like kids. Today we're doing more volunteering. This week we're on babysitting duty at a women's shelter, looking after kids while their moms are taking life skills management, talking to counsellors, whatever it is they need to take care of to get their lives in order."

Look, there was a list of things that women's shelters did. Sparkle was here to get people to put together puzzles with missing pieces with toddlers, this week. Lectures were for another time.

"We'll basically be put to work doing whatever the supervisor needs us to do. One of you might get put on arts and crafts duty, one of you might have to help some kid with their homework. There's a little outdoor area with, like, some grass and a sandbox if that's your thing. All depends on what the kids there need, you know? Keep in mind going in that the kids are going to be varying levels of 'doing okay,' too. It's a women's shelter, which means they might just be there because Mom couldn't pay rent, or they might have seen some really ugly stuff at home. Either way, be gentle. Don't pry about it. If a kid volunteers to talk about it, because there's no controlling what comes out of a child's mouth when they get a mind to share, then roll with it. If something they say gets a bit too real... I'll be right there. Grab me, we'll tap you out, no harm, no foul."

He tilted his head at the class. With any luck, chasing pre-teens around in a giant game of tag would help people burn off some of that excess energy, at the very least.

"Any questions?"

After being one of the few teachers to hold class last week, Hardison didn't feel all that guilty about canceling this one.

I was gonna have us practicing Life Drawing. That seems like a terrible plan and I've been too distracted to come up with a better one. Go home, do some art, call it good.

Sorry not sorry, kids.

[My apologies, though! It somehow never registered that today was Thursday!]
