"With next week being vacation and all that, we thought you might want tips on if you get pulled into some sort of wacky, madcap adventure," Magnus said. "Advice numero uno is to use the buddy system. Pick a buddy."

He totally grinned at Cara, waggling his eyebrows like 'eh, eh, you and me are buddies, right?'

Cara didn't roll her eyes at him, so that kind of counted as confirmation? "It's important to have someone at your back who you can trust completely."

Which was one of the non-sexy reasons she was rooming with Surreal on break. The sexy reasons went without saying.

"And, you know, barring that, someone who probably won't loot your corpse?" Which was a very low bar. "You're also gonna want to keep an eye out for magical macguffins. They show up way more often than you'd think."

"Which doesn't mean you should be careless once you get one, as they're near impossible to replace." At least without playing silly buggers with time.

Magnus nodded along with what she was saying. "Oh yeah, those things can kill people. Don't kill people. Unless they deserve it and are evil."

"And evil tend to mean they're doing bad things as opposed to disliking their faces." Awww, that was character growth right there people.

"Exactly," Magnus added. "So, everyone pick a buddy and come up with back up plans for hijinks."

But not murder hijinks. Try stealing animals instead or something.

"Yo, next week is spring break and I know most of you ain't really payin' attention to classes today," Hardison said. "So we got a movie about one of the greatest artists of the modern era, Frida Kahlo. A Mexican artist, her work explores identity, culture, postcolonialism, gender, class, an' race. She'd planned to be a doctor, but an accident at eighteen nearly killed her an' left her bedridden for months. That was when she began truly paintin' in earnest."

He gestured for the class to take seats in front of the screen he'd rigged up. "Get comfortable an' let's do this," he said.
